Historia
When Barry Fairweather dies unexpectedly in his early 40s, the little town of Pagford is left in shock. Pagford is, seemingly, an English idyll, with a cobbled market square and an ancient abbey, but what lies behind the pretty façade is a town at war. Rich at war with poor, teenagers at war with their parents, wives at war with their husbands, teachers at war with their pupils.... Pagford is not what it at first seems. And the empty seat left by Barry on the town's council soon becomes the catalyst for the biggest war the town has yet seen.

Good but not great
Revisado: 11-04-16
Story takes a while to develop. Eventually a few of the many characters are developed enough to be engaging at the end.

Better narrator
Revisado: 08-26-16
Better narrator than the last two books, but still preferred Jonathan Keeble. A few changes to some names but at least were back to Bebennberg not Bambera.

Historia
In the last years of the ninth century, King Alfred of Wessex is in failing health, and his heir is an untested youth. The Danes, who have failed so many times to conquer Wessex, smell opportunity.... First comes Harald Bloodhair, a savage warrior leading a Viking horde. But Alfred still has the services of Uhtred, his unwilling warlord, who leads Harald into a trap and, at Farnham in Surrey, inflicts one of the greatest defeats the Vikings were ever to suffer.

Narrator change sucks
Revisado: 07-26-16
Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Stephen Perring?
Jonathan Keeble
Any additional comments?
Changing the narrator for this series was a mistake. Stephen Perring changes the pronunciation of characters and locations throughout the book.

Historia
The previous edition of this now-classic book revealed the existence and subversive manipulations of "economic hit men". John Perkins wrote that economic hit men (EHM) "are highly paid professionals who cheat countries around the globe out of trillions of dollars. Their tools include fraudulent financial reports, rigged elections, payoffs, extortion, sex, and murder".

Idealistic drivel.
Revisado: 05-27-16
This book is non-stop complaining of how America / corporations are responsible for all the worlds ill. The author spouts a bunch of classic idealistic drivel about "all we need is love" instead of addressing the issues from a balanced perspective.
