Historia
In The Signature of All Things, Elizabeth Gilbert returns to fiction, inserting her inimitable voice into an enthralling story of love, adventure and discovery. Spanning much of the 18th and 19th centuries, the novel follows the fortunes of the extraordinary Whittaker family as led by the enterprising Henry Whittaker - a poor-born Englishman who makes a great fortune in the South American quinine trade, eventually becoming the richest man in Philadelphia.

Another highly recommended stinker

What did you like about this audiobook?
I liked the narrator a lot.
How has the book increased your interest in the subject matter?
No.
Does the author present information in a way that is interesting and insightful, and if so, how does he achieve this?
No
What did you find wrong about the narrator's performance?
Nothing.
Do you have any additional comments?
This book was recommended as a book that tied in with the botanical books we read at my botanical book club by none other than the librarian who obviously doesn't know that the book club was formed to read about botanical subjects, not chick books, which is what this is, although an incredibly well written one. I think the references to Joseph Banks threw the librarian off. I really did not like this book at all and found it to be a big waste of my time.

Too late I noticed that this book is in Russian
Revisado: 06-09-13
What disappointed you about Botany and Zoology for 7th Grade?
It is in Russian and I can't understand a word of it.
Has Botany and Zoology for 7th Grade turned you off from other books in this genre?
Yes. I am turned off by all untranslated Russian books. I don't understand why it is even listed. It ought to be in a special Russian section.
Would you be willing to try another one of Victoria Serebryanskaya’s performances?
No. She speaks Russian and I can't understand a word she says.
What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?
Anger, sadness, disappointment and a feeling that I am a sucker who did not see the special note that this book is in Russian. I think this is a little joke played by Audible that is not very funny to me. Maybe my review will be a warning to all Audible subscribers that sometimes the books, depicted with titles in English, are actually read in Russian.
Any additional comments?
You cheated me. Even though you put that note in that it was read in Russian. You ought to have shown the cover with the title and all writing in Russian so only Russian speaking people will buy it. And why don't you have an important scientific book in English? You don't have much at all. Is it because only 7th grade Russians are interested in botany and zoology? Are you making a statement about the stupidity of our own English (sort of) speaking 7th graders? Or are you saying that a book like this should be read in Russian because they are the only ones who will listen to it? What are you trying to say? Huh?

Historia
On a warm summer morning in North Carthage, Missouri, it is Nick and Amy Dunne’s fifth wedding anniversary. Presents are being wrapped and reservations are being made when Nick’s clever and beautiful wife disappears. Husband-of-the-Year Nick isn’t doing himself any favors with cringe-worthy daydreams about the slope and shape of his wife’s head, but passages from Amy's diary reveal the alpha-girl perfectionist could have put anyone dangerously on edge.

Very Disappointing
Revisado: 10-07-12
Would you try another book from Gillian Flynn and/or Julia Whelan and Kirby Heyborne ?
No
What do you think your next listen will be?
A Confederacy of Dunces, a book which I've read twice, but a preliminary listen makes me certain that the reader is terrific and will do justice to a true comedic masterpiece.
Which character – as performed by Julia Whelan and Kirby Heyborne – was your favorite?
None
You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?
No
Any additional comments?
I read such great reviews of this book and even have an acquaintance who thinks it is the best book she's read in years so I couldn't wait to get started listening to it. I didn't like the first third of the download, but on the acquaintance's encouragement I listened to two thirds of the book before becoming so bored I couldn't continue. I don't care what happened in the end. It is a stupid book. It is written on an 8th grade level (maybe even 6th grade except for the sex). I will never have any respect for the NY Times book review or any other reviewer who gave this mess such a hot rating. I do not consider myself to be a critic and read just about all categories of books. Mysteries are among my favorites. This doesn't even deserve to be called a mystery, it is just a small, mean little book.

Historia
Now at last Keith Richards pauses to tell his story in the most anticipated autobiography in decades. And what a story! Listening obsessively to Chuck Berry and Muddy Waters records in a coldwater flat with Mick Jagger and Brian Jones, building a sound and a band out of music they loved. Finding fame and success as a bad-boy band, only to find themselves challenged by authorities everywhere....

Diasppointed
Revisado: 02-18-12
What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?
Keith Richards has to have had an enormously entertaining life, but you would never know it as you fall asleep under the spell of Johnny Depp's monotone reading of the first four chapters. It gets better when Joe Hurley starts relating anecdotes about his life. At least I think it is Joe Hurley, maybe it is Johhny Depp come to life and acting like Keith Richards. Whatever. Maybe the 2nd part is better, but I barely got through the first part. Too bad. Why didn't Keith Richards just do the reading, or at least just get on and record a bunch of stories about his life. Would have been much better.
Has Life turned you off from other books in this genre?
No
What didn’t you like about Johnny Depp and Joe Hurley ’s performance?
Johnny Depp read in a terrible, boring, monotone. I thought Joe Hurley was Keith Richards, so I am happy to find out that it wasn't Keith.
You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?
None.
