Historia
Why we think it’s a great listen: Seabiscuit was a runaway success, and Hillenbrand’s done it again with another true-life account about beating unbelievable odds. On a May afternoon in 1943, an Army Air Forces bomber crashed into the Pacific Ocean and disappeared, leaving only a spray of debris and a slick of oil, gasoline, and blood. Then, on the ocean surface, a face appeared....

Incredible story, well performed, but way too long
Revisado: 06-20-15
Don't get me wrong. I adore a long read and savor details. However, Hillenbrand goes on and on when three or four examples would suffice. The beginning of the book feels excessively drawn out for the setting up of the overall themes and metaphors that dominate the rest of the story. That being said, this story is incredible--a must read. Hillenbrand's writing is solid, neither pandering to the low level, mass market nor over-reaching in a wanna be Pulitzer grubber's style. Although the writing is overly long in the beginning and after the war ends, the actual telling of the rest of the story is superb and believable. Thanks for the good read.

From the cohost of Fox & Friends, the true story of the anonymous spies who helped win the Revolutionary War. Among the pantheon of heroes of the American Revolution, six names are missing. Content good, but awkward reading, basically a summarized version of Rose's "Washington's Spies"
Revisado: 05-27-15
Of course, the information and story here are fascinating non-fiction, but the entire thing feels like it is based on Rose's classic "Washington's Spies." Everything from the organization to specific, elaborating flourishes appear cribbed from Rose's tome on the same subject. For example, the flirtatious younger brother and Robert Townsend, Jr.,'s appearance as explained in the penultimate portion are paraphrased in the same order as Rose's prose. At any rate, this is a lower-level version of the subject and a good introduction for high schoolers to this engaging subject. The actual reading of the text on Audible has many awkward pauses and breaks, though the reader's voice is somewhat pleasant.

Historia
Based on remarkable new research, acclaimed historian Alexander Rose brings to life the true story of the spy ring that helped America win the Revolutionary War. For the first time, Rose takes us beyond the battlefront and deep into the shadowy underworld of double agents and triple crosses, covert operations and code breaking, and unmasks the courageous, flawed men who inhabited this wilderness of mirrors—including the spymaster at the heart of it all.

Good go-to if you are starting research on American Revolutionary War
Revisado: 05-26-15
Even-handed and dryly funny at times. Somewhat written with phrasing and word choice of late Eighteenth Century English, this text can feel worst at times. However, I'd still rate it superior to other sources on the topic. This Audible reading was just right. The reader timed his breath breaks perfectly and had a good voice.
