Excellent book that I’ve returned to many times

Great narration, the reader does a wonderful job with the different voices, although the women are a bit similar. But I realized how much I appreciated the narration when I was watching the TV series, also excellent, because all the picaresque stories that were left out of the TV version are great to listen to in short sessions. The book is like a buffet that you sample over and over again, not something you listen to in one sitting expecting a straight plot.

I love the complexity of the plots and PD James’ empathetic insight, which is used imaginatively in the creation of the mystery. Great performances, you can easily visualize the scenes behind the words.

Fantastic story, fantastic narration

I’m probably not the only one here who learned about Jane Grey from the 1986 movie, still a favorite of mine, but the story always entranced me. This was a very compelling creation of the world that Jane Grey lived in until her untimely death. It was hard not to hear the narrators’ voices and see the actors from the film in my mind, which I didn’t mind, it was like rewatching the film with backstory which was wonderful. This is one of those real life way more interesting than fiction stories, and everyone on this project did a beautiful job.

Genuinely interesting biography of a poltergeist or psychic phenomena or whatever the hell was going on in that house, I’ve never read a book that personalizes the terror so engagingly.
