Historia
When the sheriff is murdered, his son is asked to take his place. Bobby Trent is a semi-retired rodeo cowboy and the son of a highly respected law officer. When his father, the sheriff, is murdered, Trent is asked to fulfill the remaining months of his term in office. Sheriff Bobby Trent; nobody would have guessed it, but it should be an easy enough task; drink a little coffee, maybe lead a parade. Easy work until he is healthy enough to return to the circuit.

Just not great.
Revisado: 02-25-25
Decent premise, and Bobby continues to be an excellent character. But the reader is not good. Rhythms, tempo, and dialects.. particularly for women.. are weak. Wanted more out of this one.

Revisado: 01-26-24
Not sure how Jo comes up with this stuff, but it makes my skin crawl. 15 hours worth of riveting, twisted thrills and chills. Particularly loved the bar scene with Volger. No idea until it’s over!

Ridiculous, even for a thriller
Revisado: 01-17-22
Way beyond plausible, Ted! C'mon. And the fascination with this kid has gotten into way too much of the books. Get back to Congrieve and Stoke being integral to the plots. They feel incidental here. The last volume had an inferior reader. I gave it a pass - publisher's decision. This time, John is back, and that's good! But the plot and execution are poor. Strike two. Giving the series one more shot, then giving up.

REALLY good premise that was particularly creepy to read during the week of 9/11. But this is not a good venue for Ari Fliakos. Too boyish a sound to be Dewey. What happened to the previous reader(s)??

Historia
Viktor Orlov had a longstanding appointment with death. Once Russia’s richest man, he now resides in splendid exile in London, where he has waged a tireless crusade against the authoritarian kleptocrats who have seized control of the Kremlin. His mansion in Chelsea’s exclusive Cheyne Walk is one of the most heavily protected private dwellings in London. Yet somehow, on a rainy summer evening, in the midst of a global pandemic, Russia’s vengeful president finally manages to cross Orlov’s name off his kill list.

Miss you George. But Edoardo is Fantastic!
Revisado: 08-09-21
I was worried to see a new reader for Gabriel, but Mr. Ballerini is typically great. Dialects, as usual, are unsurpassed.
As for the story, very intriguing. All the detail about shady banking is interesting.. and the "high life" details are mesmerizing! Uncovering the layers of shells and misdirections to eventually figure out who the mastermind is keeps the intrigue going, and then Gabriel's setup is beyond brilliant.
A slight change of pace from the normal Office dealings, but enjoyable..... as always!

Mediocre chapter in the Hawke saga. Where's John?
Revisado: 09-18-20
Interesting premise never fulfilled. Too much jumping back and forth between WWII and present day, without any real connections as to why. Not Ted's best effort. And.. echoing the litany of complaints.. where the heck is John Shea? I like Simon Vance in other settings, but this isn't his strong suit. Shea IS Alex Hawke (and Congrieve sp? and most definitely STOKELY!) Get him back, publishers, or I'm done with the series.

Through decades of music by one of the best-selling musicians of all time, who created classics like "Fire and Rain" and "Carolina in My Mind", James Taylor has doled out his history in the poetry of his work. No-brainer for James fans
Revisado: 02-19-20
Quick, down and dirty life story of a legend. At least, the formative part of his life. Great backstories to help us understand how James got through really rough times as a teenager and then young adult! The backstories for some of his biggest hits are really interesting, too. And the musical interludes really add to the feel. JT fans will love it. Others.... maybe.

What ifs abound! Where's Dick Hill?
Revisado: 12-12-18
Really liked the premise - two unrelated plot lines and convergence - and ALWAYS love Scott's reading. But where's Dick? To me, he IS Jack Reacher. I'm suspecting Mr. Hill is getting ready to retire, but if someone could confirm, I'd appreciate it.
As for Past Tense.. it's fun and intriguing, and a little creepy! I think one of the best aspects of the story is the "What if this was me?" angle. On both plotlines! Don't want to give away anything, but Reacher's search asks the question constantly. Do I really want to know, or are some things better left to history and imagination? On the young couple's end, decisions are made that create a harrowing struggle. What would I do if I found myself in a similar situation?
Definitely worth the read.. particularly if you like Scott Brick, as it looks like he may be the new identity of our hero!
