Historia
The Ministry for the Future is a masterpiece of the imagination, using fictional eyewitness accounts to tell the story of how climate change will affect us all. Its setting is not a desolate, post-apocalyptic world, but a future that is almost upon us - and in which we might just overcome the extraordinary challenges we face.

The Ministry for the Future - I'm gobsmaked
Revisado: 12-16-22
I can't remember when I read a more powerful book. The history, science, and personal stories all reach out to touch you -- all of it laid on the premise of climate change. This book is long, and terrifying at times, but it is also filled with grace reflected in the people, the land, and the way we think about ourselves and our world. The world becomes very small before it becomes somewhat large again. It is, perhaps, the most important book I've read in years.

The Book of Night Women - Eye opening truths
Revisado: 10-18-21
Read this book. Arm yourself with the knowledge that truth, no matter how horrific, is good. Realize that thousands and thousands of humans lived lives like those portrayed in the book. Be grateful and aware - because slavery in some forms is back. Prepare yourself to fight for all people. Share the book.

First, she imagined it. Then a killer made it real. Rowan Smith is living in a borrowed Malibu beach house while her bestselling novel is made into a Hollywood movie. A former FBI agent with a haunted past, Rowan thinks she has outrun her demons. But fiction and reality collide when a dismembered body is found in Colorado: the real-life victim had the same name, occupation, and looks as a character in Rowan's novel.

It seems every time we have a strong woman with an interesting backstory, the author has to destroy her by turning her into a sniveling, weak-kneed helpless creature. Just stop!

Historia
Frigid February air has settled into the bones of the Blue Ridge Mountains, making for a slow foxhunting season, though “Sister” Jane Arnold’s enthusiasm is not so easily deterred. With the winter chill come tweed coats, blazing fireplaces - and perhaps another to share the warmth with, as the bold hunting scarlets worn by the men in Sister Jane’s hunting club make the hearts of women flutter - until someone’s stops entirely.

Rita Mae Brown is a writer - not a narrator
Revisado: 01-13-20
I honestly can't tell you if I liked the book. I'm sorry to say that Rita Mae Brown has ruined her own book. A narrator she is not. She stumbles and bumbles and there is no reason not to hire a professional! Her errors are so frequent as to through off the tempo of the book and I found myself listening for the errors, out of place pauses, stumbles, and not the story. You'll pass this one if you're smart. At least listen to the sample before purchasing.

Historia
Without John C. Houbolt, a mid-level engineer at NASA, Apollo 11 would never have made it to the moon. Top NASA engineers on the project, including Werner Von Braun, strongly advocated for a single, huge spacecraft to travel to the moon, land, and return to Earth. It's the scenario used in 1950s cartoons and horror movies about traveling to outer space. Houbolt had another idea: Lunar Orbit Rendezvous. LOR would link two spacecraft in orbit while the crafts were travelling at 3,600 miles an hour around the moon. His plan was ridiculed and considered unthinkable.

Lost in the background distractions
Revisado: 10-28-19
I would have enjoyed this book so much more if the background sounds the director interjected weren't so distracting. There was one instance when I wasn't sure if the "noise" was a train coming or the book. Audible...just knock it off. Your additions are distractions and instead of adding depth to a book you take away from it. The book itself was very good. Lots of history, interviews from those involved, and lots of insight. Good straight forward narration.

Historia
Joe Biden is fresh out of the Obama White House and feeling adrift when his favorite railroad conductor dies in a suspicious accident. To unravel the mystery, "Amtrak Joe" re-teams with the only man he's ever fully trusted - Obama. Together they'll plumb the darkest corners of Delaware, traveling from cheap motels to biker bars and beyond, as they uncover the sinister forces advancing America's opioid epidemic. Hope Never Dies is essentially the first published work of Obama/Biden fan fiction - and a cathartic listen for anyone distressed by the current state of affairs.

Such High Hopes - Dashed
Revisado: 08-13-18
I had such high hopes for this book. The synopsis sounded like it would be fun, humorous, a return of the bromance and witty. Instead, it seems written by someone who neither liked nor admired either Biden or Obama. Biden spends the book wondering what happened to his friendship with Obama in a whiny sort of way and Obama is portrayed as an overthinking cold fish. The story itself is eh. The premise is great though. Too bad the writer isn't. Save your credit.

Pure Entertainment
Revisado: 02-21-17
What other book might you compare The Hike to and why?
Many years ago I read Robert Heinlein's Job: A Comedy of Justice and this reminded me of that book. This is so full of twists and turns that you never know where you are going. I was never able to add one and one and get two.
What about Christopher Lane’s performance did you like?
Magary's writing and Lane's narration are pure entertainment.
Any additional comments?
This is a fun book. No social commentary, although it did have me thinking about what is important in my life. Read it for fun and see what it offers you.

Historia
A fishing guide and part-time investigator, Hannah Smith is a tall, strong Florida woman descended from many generations of the same. But the problem before her now is much older even than that. Five hundred years ago, Spanish conquistadors planted the first orange seeds in Florida, but now the whole industry is in trouble. The trees are dying at the root, weakened by infestation and genetic manipulation, and the only solution might be somehow, somewhere, to find samples of the original root stock.

Not my favorite
Revisado: 09-28-16
What disappointed you about Smooth Operator?
Drawn-out, boring at times, not the normal entertaining read.
Would you ever listen to anything by Stuart Woods and Parnell Hall again?
Stuart Woods, yes. The combo - I'll give it one more chance and if it doesn't get much, much better then I'm out.
Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Tony Roberts?
Tony Roberts is always perfect in this series.
If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from Smooth Operator?
Half the book. It just drags and is all over the place. I noticed myself having conversations with myself instead of listening to the book.
