Historia
Eight years ago I fell into a secret summer fling with my best friend’s little sister before our lives went in different directions. Now, I’m the grumpy to Juliet’s sunshine on a popular dating podcast we host, and when a wealthy fan gives us a charming coastal cottage as the biggest thank you ever, we head to the town where I grew up to give it a makeover. And find the house has only one bed. Located under a mirrored ceiling.

ick!
Revisado: 09-05-24
This is basically soft porn with a very flimsy plot between very graphic sex scenes. I almost bailed several times because the characters' navel gazing was so annoying even before the coarse language of the bedroom scenes kicked in. Pass!

Historia
When his mother became President, Alex Claremont-Diaz was promptly cast as the American equivalent of a young royal. Handsome, charismatic, genius—his image is pure millennial-marketing gold for the White House. There's only one problem: Alex has a beef with the actual prince, Henry, across the pond. And when the tabloids get hold of a photo involving an Alex-Henry altercation, U.S./British relations take a turn for the worse.

Charming story!
Revisado: 08-12-22
4.5 stars, rounded up for the sheer enjoyment factor. This is not fine literature, but it was such an enjoyable listen that it got me over my temporary audiobook strike (just couldn't find anything compelling for awhile!). The characters are loveable and flawed, and the story is completely ridiculous and completely charming. It doesn't hurt that the main character (son of the fictional first female president of the US) is from Austin, TX and does a fair amount of shout-outs to local spots including my beloved Lake LBJ. I'm sure most reviews do enough plot spoilers that most people know it turns into an LGBTQ+ love story, but I loved that that didn't really end up mattering to me at all - love is love is love, and I loved these spirited characters. The narration is excellent!

Four months of wallowing in embarrassed depression should be enough. I’m beginning to realize that no one is who they seem to be, and my life story might be spinning out of my control. It’s time to take a shower, put on a bra, and wear something other than sweatpants. Difficult, but doable. With my friends - real and imaginary - by my side, I need to edit my life before the elusive darkness comes for all of us.

Not for me
Revisado: 05-11-22
So apparently there is a genre called Paranormal Women's Fiction, and apparently it's not for me! I might have preferred this book if I'd read it, as the narrator used a campy private-investigator-from-the-20's/gumshoe Joe style intonation that grated on my nerves throughout the story. Why couldn't the main character just sound like a normal person?!? Beyond that, if terms such as "Black-and-Decker-Pecker-Wrecker" and "Weather-Hooker" and trite, predictable banter make you giggle, then you might enjoy this; if they make you gag in your mouth every time you hear them, then please spare yourself the esophageal wear and tear. Also, as other reviewers have noted, it ends without an end (cliffhanger). I'll wait for the sequel synopsis and spare myself the listen to find out what happens.

Historia
This wasn’t the plan. Judge Herman Calvert, 88, never thought he’d outlive his beloved wife, Marie. Yet now he finds himself alone, a grieving widower, desperate for escape from the home they built together, where every turn brings a painful reminder of his late wife. So the judge retreats to his lake cabin in rural Wisconsin, a place where an old man can find peace and solitude. A place where nature can take its course. But something new has moved in.

Great narration for a bizarre story
Revisado: 10-28-21
While I absolutely loved Kevin Bacon's narration on this Audible original, ultimately the story wasn't for me. It's a challenge whether to categorize this as sci-fi, horror(ish), or fantastical realism, but it's likely some combination of all. The plotline of the retired judge grieving his recently deceased wife moving to their lake house and battling against an invasive vine that has overtaken his property was all good for me until it veered into the sci-fi (or was it delusional?) realm. Then there were some just gross parts that were difficult to listen to (even though I'm a nurse) - I can't think of another audiobook that has made me cringe so much! Ultimately this was a miss for me, but I do hope that Kevin Bacon will consider doing more audiobooks, as he was fantastic!

Historia
James Dommek, Jr., an Alaska Native writer and musician, sheds new light on a real-life mystery that pits Native American folklore against the US justice system. In the vast Alaskan Arctic, legend has it there once lived a mythic tribe—Iñukuns—that only existed in rumors and whispers. This changed forever when an actor-turned-fugitive, Teddy Kyle Smith, had an encounter that brought Iñukuns from myth to reality. Smith was an aspiring actor with a promising career until it all came quickly crashing down with a gunshot, a manhunt, bloodshed, and other frightful events.

interesting glimpse into native Alaskan culture
Revisado: 10-05-21
3.5 stars rounded up. If you are sensitive to foul language (as apparently several of the reviewers are), then perhaps this isn't the story for you. If you are up for a glimpse into Native culture and what modern day life is like for people in the remote villages of Alaska, and like a bit of true crime as well, then this is an interesting listen. I enjoyed expanding my horizons with the introduction to a part of the globe that's very different from mine both culturally and geographically.

Historia
Shelby works as a dog walker in northern California, and she’s just finished up her bi-weekly trip to the park with a husky named Pluto. When she brings him back to his house, she finds his owner - Todd Burke, a well-known local businessman and founder of an organic supplements company - lying on the bathroom floor, dead. A detective arrives on the scene. As she interviews Shelby, the body is inspected by a medical examiner, and more cops search Todd’s home, it becomes clear that the victim’s life was less picture-perfect than his clean-cut persona might lead you to believe.

3.5 stars, rounded up. This was the perfect between-longer-audiobooks listen. Sometimes you just want a good story that isn't too much of a time commitment, and this was perfect for that. The narration is great, the story is entertaining and kept me guessing with a surprise twist that kept me thinking after I finished. Love these Audible originals!

Historia
I’ve been in this life for fifty years, been trying to work out its riddle for forty-two, and been keeping diaries of clues to that riddle for the last thirty-five. Notes about successes and failures, joys and sorrows, things that made me marvel, and things that made me laugh out loud. How to be fair. How to have less stress. How to have fun. How to hurt people less. How to get hurt less. How to be a good man. How to have meaning in life. How to be more me. Recently, I worked up the courage to sit down with those diaries.

Alright, alright, alright!
Revisado: 05-11-21
I liked this more than I expected to. Mr. McConaughey is obviously very much his own person, and hearing him narrate his life story, dreams, doodles, expectations, and disappointments is fascinating. I never knew this much about him, and had never realized that I wanted to, but I now really appreciate him as an artist and a man. I recommend listening to the audiobook version so you can hear him in his own unfiltered narration, but grab a copy of the book as well, as you'll want to see the photos, "bumper stickers," and journal entries. Thanks for a fun listen and cheers to you, Mr. Minister of Culture of ATX!

Lovely audiobook
Revisado: 05-11-21
3.5 stars, rounded up. The audiobook version is lovely - like a lullaby, soothing and sweet even when the content was hard - the narration was perfectly done. It was a bit confusing at times in the first half of the book to determine whether we were in "current" times (when the twin daughter, Judith, is becoming ill with the pestilence), or in the flashbacks of the early days of the father (who is never named, but understood to be William Shakespeare) and Agnes' introduction and courting - I'm sure the chapter changes in the written novel make it obvious, but with the audiobook it was a bit harder to differentiate at times. Regardless, I enjoyed listening to the lilting prose. I imagine that I might have become frustrated with some of the longer descriptions had I actually read it, but the voice of the narrator was so pleasant that I didn't mind listening to the long passages. Other reviewers complained that "nothing happened" in the book (which is not entirely true), but I actually enjoyed the slower pace of this novel, and the narration brought the characters to life so that they felt quite real.
I may need to go back and re-read Hamlet now, to fully appreciate any hidden references or similarities, but even without that Shakespeare refresher, I found this audiobook delightful.

Fun Bromance
Revisado: 05-11-21
3.5 stars, rounded up. I was looking for some audio brain candy and this delivered perfectly, except that it actually made me think more than I expected. I loved the idea of a romance novel written from a man's perspective, and I really love the idea that a group of men (many of whom are professional athletes) turn to romance novels to save their marriages. Cute! I'm not gonna lie - it made me want my husband to read this for some tips! ;) That being said, it was a bit steamier and explicit than I typically enjoy. However, next time I'm up for a fun "bromance" listen, I may check out further stories in this series, as I enjoyed the characters a lot and the narration was great.
