Historia
An AI overseer and a human crew arrive on a distant planet to salvage an ancient UN starship. The overseer is unhappy. The crew, well, they're certainly no A-team. Not even a C-team on the best of days. And worse? Urmahon Beta, the planet, is at the ass-end of nowhere. Everybody expects this to be a long, ugly, and thankless job. Then it all goes disastrously wrong. What they thought was an uninhabited backwater turns out to be anything but empty.

Somewhat depressing path to a victory?
Revisado: 10-24-23
Not what I expected, but with an unknown to me author anything can happen.
The story ends in an unusual direction. After all the strife, pain and suffering, mankind finds a new path to enlightenment. However, some of us may find such change uncomfortable.
I don’t believe I’ll be buying another offering by this author, but I found the narrator to be a pleasure to listen to. I love Nathan Fillion’s work voice, and now that I know he’s reading the stories I will be searching out his recordings, no matter the subject, genre, or author.

A member of the elite Hawk force that protects the City of Elantra, Kaylin Neya has sacrificed much to earn the respect of the winged Aerians and immortal Barrani she works alongside. It’s time I admit to myself that I love these stories!
Revisado: 10-15-23
I was intrigued a decade ago when I first discovered Michelle Sagara’s flights of fantasy. However, life has a habit of interference in my spare time, until recently. I’ve been binging the series, in order from the first book, over the last year. A good portion of my daily routine is now consumed happily in listening to these quality stories, and I’m eagerly looking forward to the next, and the next, etc.
Thank you to the author and the narrator for making this trip so enjoyable.

Historia
Jazz Bashara is a criminal. Well, sort of. Life on Artemis, the first and only city on the moon, is tough if you're not a rich tourist or an eccentric billionaire. So smuggling in the occasional harmless bit of contraband barely counts, right? Not when you've got debts to pay and your job as a porter barely covers the rent. Everything changes when Jazz sees the chance to commit the perfect crime, with a reward too lucrative to turn down.

Rosario Dawson’s narration shines!
Revisado: 09-22-23
but that is about all in this story that does. I was excited to start another Andy Weir book, my fourth. I’ve rekindled my love of SciFi thanks to his marvelous writing and weaving of science fact and true history into the narrative. However, something was missing from this story, something vital. I never developed any affinity towards the main character, Jaz. A spoiled, self centered, over-intelligent child in an adult’s body. Shallow.
I look forward to the next book by Andy Weir, but I would recommend bypassing this one.

Historia
This is the story of Leif Grettison, a crew member of humanity’s first flight to the stars, even though he had not expected to take that trip. The year is 2069. The Troubles, a decade plus of proxy, and direct warfare among the US, Russia, and China, had brought the world to the brink of apocalypse. It was close enough to finally scare the leaders of the powers into signing the Geneva Treaties, a set of agreements pledging peace, cooperation, and the dismantling of the military complexes.

Much more enticing than I had expected.
Revisado: 09-18-23
Easy listening; good narration.
Not necessarily a story that will grow into a classic scifi, but the treatment of human relations in stressful situations was handled well and became one of the mainstream directions of the saga.
I enjoyed the few unanticipated twists in the tale and found myself agreeing with the ultimate decision by the two main characters; a great solution to an untenable situation.

A visit with an old friend..
Revisado: 09-06-21
A lovely visit with an old friend or family member that you haven’t seen in quite some time. A chance to catch up on all the news and gossip from your old home town that you didn’t even know mattered to you. By the end of all Tom’s books, you come to know the people, their history, what gets them up and going in the morning, and what settles them in at night. They become your friends and they become important to you, as much as the people you knew decades ago, but have lost touch with.
Spend a little time catching up and getting to know them, again.

Tornadoes, cyclones, tsunamis… Weather can be deadly – especially when it strikes without warning. Millions of Americans could soon find themselves at the mercy of violent weather if the public data behind lifesaving storm alerts gets privatized for personal gain. In his first Audible Original feature, New York Times best-selling author and journalist Michael Lewis delivers hard-hitting research on not-so-random weather data – and how Washington plans to release it.

If NPR produced audio books…
Revisado: 07-12-21
This is a 2+ hours of facts and figures woven into a historical narrative. Skillfully done, well produced, and narrated, it makes for an interesting snapshot of much of the hidden existence of a government bureaucracy, it’s functions, why it does what it does, the people who attempt to run it, and those affected.
Complaints?; this could have been even longer, easily novel length, and been even more informative and engrossing.
Highly recommended.

Tom Bodett, like an old friend.
Revisado: 07-21-19
I first heard this on a cassette tape I bought at a truck stop in 1990. All I knew of him before playing it is that he’s leaving the light on for ya!
I love his stories, his voice and delivery, and even the piano accompaniment. Listening to this is like a trip down memory lane with a life long friend; familiar, friendly, relaxed. It’s comfortable and engaging.
I’m so happy that this and his other books are available here at Audible!
Now, to settle in with my own memories of Alaska, and an old acquaintance who shares them with me!

Will Robbie book 1. The Innocent.
Revisado: 07-01-19
David Baldacci has held my interest for a dozen years. He has entranced me once again.
Will Robbie, a series new to me, has just signaled that listening to one is not an option. I've now to listen to the entire series! Tense, fast, tender, tough, the quintessential super agent is working overtime to keep us safe. This was not a formulaic story, but clever and involving. I had to pay attention or would have missed clues and twists.
I'm very happy with this purchase.
The two narrators were excellent, expressing multiple characters and emotional states in a fully believable manner. I hope they narrate all the stories.

Time changes nothing except my memory!
Revisado: 05-27-19
I read this book in the early 1960's when all the events of this story had a personal relevance.
I had discovered sci-if early on and I must have been in the fifth grade(?) when I found this in the school library. It was the last of the Robert Heinlein books they had that I hadn't read, so it too was consumed by my rampant curiosity.
It's funny, but I don't recall so much racism in the story, but perhaps it was just the time period? Racism and misogyny was more accepted as normal. My sensitivities were a little shocked now on listening to this story, but I had to remember to keep it in context. Admittedly, it's a vital part of this storyline as a retelling of the way things were; it's me and society that has changed over time.
The narration is excellent. The story and the characters are relics of a time past. I can vouch for their authenticity. It is this story that got me to reconsider all I had been taught about the desirability of surviving a nuclear outcome to the Cold War, and it started me down the road to questioning all authority. (You may not wish to share this with your children until they are old enough to leave home?) The 1960's were an interesting time!
Enjoy the story and use it to re-familiarize yourself with a time when a large portion of our population had built a bomb shelter in their back yard. Refresh the memory of fear and unsettled life that we lived through that is covered here so well. Just remember that we survived (?).

By turns tender and terrifying, Bob Honey Who Just Do Stuff captures America on the verge of political upheaval in 2016 and introduces us to a man who just might be able to save us from the oncoming horror. Yes, Bob Honey - carnival carny, sewage specialist, and government operative, among other occupations - has spent years in preparation, crisscrossing the world in the employ of a mysterious government program that pays in small bills.

Another victim of the Vietnam War era ?
Revisado: 05-25-19
This was interesting. Probably not based on any one person or any actual government program, yet it seems plausible. What were the long term effects of some of the experiments and conditioning done to people by our alphabet agencies in pursuit of the perfect clandestine warrior?
Not sure what to make of this story, but it was entertaining, confusing, unsettling, and elicited both compassion and wariness. Bob seems like someone I might have served with or known, or might be?
