James Bond is not an easily intimidated man, but it’s hard not to feel unnerved in the presence of Mr. Big. A ruthless Harlem gangster who uses superstition and fear to control his vast criminal empire, he’s also one of SMERSH’s top American operatives. Mr. Big has been smuggling British pirate treasure to New York from a remote Jamaican island and funneling the proceeds to Moscow.

Could not finish the book
Revisado: 06-27-24
The American accents in this narration are unbearable, over the top caricatures. I had to stop before finishing chapter 3.

Einstein's Relativity and the Quantum Revolution: Modern Physics for Non-Scientists, 2nd Edition

Historia
"It doesn't take an Einstein to understand modern physics," says Professor Wolfson at the outset of these 24 lectures on what may be the most important subjects in the universe: relativity and quantum physics. Both have reputations for complexity. But the basic ideas behind them are, in fact, simple and comprehensible by anyone. These dynamic and illuminating lectures begin with a brief overview of theories of physical reality starting with Aristotle and culminating in Newtonian or "classical" physics.

Very well explained without higher math
Revisado: 03-26-23
The author/professor explains the topics very well with resorting to higher math, making these topics more accessible to a larger non-math audience. The presentations are engaging and clear.

Historia
This is an indispensable guide to physics that offers readers an overview of the most popular physics topics written in an accessible, irreverent, and engaging manner while still maintaining a tone of wry skepticism. Even the novice will be able to follow along, as the topics are addressed using plain English and (almost) no equations. Veterans of popular physics will also find their nagging questions addressed, like whether the universe can expand faster than light.

Good theory descriptions for lay person
Revisado: 01-10-23
I appreciate the simplified explanation of these theories.
But, the attempts at humor are distracting as are the footnotes.
I'd also like to see this content updated with more recent discoveries (Highs Boson, for example).
There are also a few times were I sense the performance is being done on auto-pilot, without really engaging with the content.

Still a classic story
Revisado: 10-24-13
This is still a classic story. Fantastic action and espionage sequences.
The only complaint is the number of 'Southern U.S.' accents in the performance: they all sound like Forrest Gump.
I definitely recommend giving this audiobook a listen.

This is a classic story that stands the test of time. This is an adventure and a story about the courage to do what's right in the face of overwhelming odds. But, it is also definitely a story about strength of friendship.

Historia
On the eve of Marcus Cicero's inauguration as consul of Rome, the grisly death of a boy sends ripples of fear through a city already wracked by civil unrest, crime, and debauchery of every kind. Felled by a hammer, his throat slit and his organs removed, the young slave appears to have been offered as a human sacrifice, forbidden as an abomination in the Roman Republic. For Cicero, the ill forebodings of this hideous murder only increase his frustrations and the dangers he already faces as Rome's leader.

If you like political thrillers, this is a good one
Revisado: 06-08-12
If you like political thrillers, this is a good one. The series continues from where Imperium left off and leaves me excited for the next installment in the series.
The author provides a lot of detail from historical names and places in the later days of Roman history. Much better than the average historical fiction novels.

Good spy hunt story, a little dated
Revisado: 06-08-12
If you are a fan of spy-hunt novels, this is definitely a good one. Keep in mind it was written a few decades ago, so some of the content is going to be dated. That should not keep you from enjoying this novel.

This is the remarkable story of the English language; from its beginnings as a minor guttural Germanic dialect to its position today as a truly established global language. The Adventure of English is not only an enthralling story of power, religion, and trade, but also the story of people, and how their lives continue to change the extraordinary language that is English.

Compelling, humorous story and great performance
Revisado: 05-17-12
This is a great story about the evolution of the English language. The author clearly loves the language and revels in its adaptability and flexibility.
He reviews major players that have influenced the language: Tyndale, Wycliffe, King James, Shakespeare.
If you are interested in understanding the English Language, then this is definitely a worthwhile purchase.

Compelling Story, Excellent Performance
Revisado: 05-17-12
An excellent story of a 'reluctant' lawyer-politician in ancient Rome, similar to John Adams from American History.
The main character seems to be continually on the verge of defeat only to pull off a masterful recovery.
We are given foreshadowing hints that these victories are leading to a dark, and possibly destructive, path.

Don't bother unless you want to be angry
Revisado: 04-21-12
Don't bother unless you want to be angry. I listened to the first five minutes and the only content was profanity-laced tirades against everyone around the author.
Perhaps there are some redeemding moments later in the book, but I could not make it through the self-loathing and seething hate evinced in the first few minutes.
This isn't a book about the CIA as much as it is a book about the things that make the author angry.
