Historia
Daniel Hill will never forget the day he heard these words: "Daniel, you may be white, but don't let that lull you into thinking you have no culture. White culture is very real. In fact, when white culture comes in contact with other cultures, it almost always wins. So it would be a really good idea for you to learn about your culture." Confused and unsettled by this encounter, Hill began a journey of understanding his own white identity. Today he is an active participant in addressing and confronting racial and systemic injustices.

I learned SO much!
Revisado: 11-06-20
As a white American who finds a heaviness on my heart for all the racial discrimination and white supremacy in our national history to the present, yet who has no education or understanding on the topic, this book has been a great place to start, but is also a good place to dive in deeper. It is Biblically grounded and reflects our dependence on Christ to actually do the work of first waking us up and changing our hearts, and only then to “know what to do”. At the same time I believe this book is appropriate for readers of any religious or spiritual background. It’s a must read!!

I learned so much!
Revisado: 01-30-19
As Christ-follower (broken and loved), wife, mother of 4, and Pediatric Occupational Therapist, among other roles in life, I have read, studied, and practiced much in psychology, mental health, trauma, neurology, behavior, and mindfulness. I was looking for a way to marry what I know works to rewire the brain and my faith in Christ. I found what I was looking for in this book. The contemplative prayer practices are found at the end of each chapter, and are very practical. I am still mulling over the deep, rich history and information about contemplation and spiritual growth. I am thankful for the way this book supported and challenged me as I walk this journey for myself, and have the opportunity to share it with others.

Spoke to my heart
Revisado: 11-15-16
Present Over Perfect spoke to my heart and life, where I'm living right now with a high school senior about to leave my home, two other teenagers, and a 9 yr old. I was encouraged to let go of "doing" for outward rewards, and instead to "be". Be available. Be present. I don't feel I have to change what I'm doing necessary, but my attitude toward it all has more rest, joy, and peace.

But knowing what EQ is and knowing how to use it to improve your life are two very different things.
