Historia
For Robby and his friends, an urban legend is the last thing on their minds when a boring Friday night presents a chance to download porn. But the short clip they watch turns out to be something far more graphic and disturbing, and in the coming days, they'll learn even the most outlandish urban legends possess a shred of truth.

Horror at its most effective
Revisado: 02-13-25
Outstanding pacing and narration, a very well-written and taut horror in one of my favorite subgenres: curses. It has notes of The Ring

Loretta Thurwar and Hamara “Hurricane Staxxx” Stacker are the stars of Chain-Gang All-Stars, the cornerstone of CAPE, or Criminal Action Penal Entertainment, a highly-popular, highly-controversial, profit-raising program in America’s increasingly dominant private prison industry. Brilliant
Revisado: 06-15-24
In my opinion, this is a once-a-generation book. Powerful, memorable, beautifully written, with multi-dimensional characters and very realistic, detailed world-building.

Historia
New York City in 1978 is a dirty, dangerous place to live - and die. Joey Peacock knows this as well as anybody - he has spent the last forty years as an adolescent vampire, perfecting the routine he now enjoys: womanizing in punk clubs and discotheques, feeding by night, and sleeping by day with others of his kind in the macabre labyrinth under the city's sidewalks.

Historia
Featuring 14 short stories and one novelette, Burn the Plans is a relentless journey into the dark places we end up when all of our plans go wrong. Grotesque government experiments, a remote viewer who blurs past and future, a crate that contains ancient evil, and bloodthirsty machines are all part of the world in which these tales take place.

The narrator was fantastic and the stories provided a lot of variety
Revisado: 12-06-23
This is the second work I've read from Tyler Jones, the first being "The Dark Side of the Room" (which was fantastic, if a hair too long). I think he did well with a short story format and provided a solid variety of concepts, narrators, settings, and characters. A few stories really stood out ("Trigger" and "The Lion's Den" come to mind). The only negative thing I could say is that the structure of the plots and the often abrupt or open endings became a bit too similar, to the point where I was able to anticipate what was going to happen or how the story was going to end just by the pattern of storytelling beats. Overall a highly recommended collection of short stories!

Effectively Creepy Novella
Revisado: 10-06-23
This novella sets the tone and atmosphere swiftly, and does a fantastic job with building POV characters you care about. I especially enjoyed Betsy's chapters, and the allegory between this supernatural entity and her worsening dementia. This is also one of the very few stories where the monster reveal is much more horrifying than the ambiguity would have been. Fantastic performance by the narrator as well, she made it very easy to fall into the story. I'll definitely be reading more of Tyler Jones' work!

Incredibly Moving
Revisado: 06-01-23
This is one of the best things I've heard on Audible in the five years I've had it. Haunting, sad, with brilliant performances and reflections on childhood and the importance of stories. I'll definitely be checking out anything else this author has done.

A slow burn with a fantastic ending
Revisado: 01-18-22
This book bears some similarities to Paver's "Dark Matter" both in subject matter and execution, but at the end of the day, I think "Thin Air" was more successful, particularly when it comes to the horror aspects. It's most certainly a slow burn, as was "Dark Matter," but the character development, the setting, and the revelations of what happened on the mountain during a previous expedition lead to a fantastic and memorable conclusion. Well worth the credit!
