Historia
In her international bestseller The Gentle Art of Swedish Death Cleaning Margareta Magnusson introduced the world to the Swedish tradition of döstädning, or “death cleaning”—clearing out your unnecessary belongings so others don’t have to do it for you. Now, unburdened by (literal and emotional) baggage, Magnusson is able to focus on what makes each day worth living. In her new book she reveals her discoveries about aging—some difficult to accept, many rather wondrous.

I absolutely LOVED this book!
Revisado: 05-25-23
As someone whose parents have both recently passed away, I am dedicated to doing a better job of preparing myself for the inevitable so that my family can benefit from that effort, in both how I live and die. Also, having an elder role model like Magareta, is inspiring. I want the last third or so of my life to be exuberant and mindful, and this book is such a bright guiding light in that regard!

Historia
Plenty of experts argue that anyone who wants to develop a skill, play an instrument, or lead their field should start early, focus intensely, and rack up as many hours of deliberate practice as possible. But a closer look at research on the world’s top performers shows that early specialization is the exception, not the rule. David Epstein examined the world’s most successful athletes, artists, musicians, inventors, forecasters and scientists. He discovered that in most fields—especially those that are complex and unpredictable—generalists, not specialists, are primed to excel.

Read This Book
Revisado: 12-17-21
I cannot recommend this book enough. Having spent a good deal of time studying health and well-being and then doing the same with political corruption, I am quite sure that part of what ails us is that we have become far too segregated and siloed. Were easily manipulated into black-and-white thinking, in part because we do not have enough breath of knowledge to be creative/innovative thinkers. There’s never been a more important time to read this book. With authoritarianism on the rise across the globe, one of the greatest gifts we can give one another is the ability to adapt and innovate in the face of a quick-paced world that can tend to overwhelm and leave many of us feeling defeated and clinging to overly simplistic answers that play into the hands of dysfunctional and authoritarian type leaders.
This book is well-written and engaging and should encourage all of us to lead lives that are guided by our interests and a breath of knowledge in a wide variety of subjects. Whether you become a Nobel laureate or just live a life that is far more fulfilling and inspiring to others, this book challenges you to navigate the world in a much more interesting and resilient fashion.
