Historia
In the US, there is a wide-ranging network of at least 370 food banks, and more than 60,000 hunger-relief organizations such as food pantries and meal programs. And yet hunger still affects one in nine Americans. What are we doing wrong? In Reinventing Food Banks and Pantries, Katie Martin argues that if handing out more and more food was the answer, we would have solved the problem of hunger decades ago. Martin instead presents a new model for charitable food, one where success is measured not by pounds of food distributed but by lives changed.

Historia
On a lake in northernmost Minnesota, you might find Naledi Lodge - only two cabins still standing, its pathways now trodden mostly by memories. And there you might meet Meg, or the ghost of the girl she was, growing up under her grandfather’s care in a world apart and a lifetime ago. Now an artist, Meg paints images "reflected across the mirrors of memory and water", much as the linked stories of Vacationland cast shimmering spells across distance and time.

I loved this book.
Revisado: 10-23-18
There were folks in my book club who hated this novel but I was just he opposite. Amanda Ronconi's narration and Sarah Stonich's writing were a perfect match made in northern Minnesota. I have gone back to listen to this once a year I first bought it. I wish others appreciated the beauty and humor of this novel.

Historia
Social scientist Brené Brown has ignited a global conversation on courage, vulnerability, shame, and worthiness. Her pioneering work uncovered a profound truth: Vulnerability—the willingness to show up and be seen with no guarantee of outcome—is the only path to more love, belonging, creativity, and joy. But living a brave life is not always easy: We are, inevitably, going to stumble and fall.

I heart Brene Brown and her research. I personally found this book incredibly insightful and helpful. Ms Brown's narration is excellent. The conversational tone and text made me feel like I was listening to a friend tell deep purposeful stories.

That was a spectacular audio performance. My head was spinning and I’d really have to listen again to write a proper review. I will say that I had a laugh out loud moment around minute 406 or 407.

Gee a family that doesn't communicate falls apart.
Revisado: 11-25-15
What would have made Everything I Never Told You better?
The narrator chose a whining breathless voice for all the characters that graded on me.
What do you think your next listen will be?
Harry Potter I hear the narration is wonderful and I need a break from some of the stuff my book club has been picking.
Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Cassandra Campbell?
Maybe an ensemble would have been better?
What character would you cut from Everything I Never Told You?
Poor Hannah set her free.
Any additional comments?
Is this a young adult novel. Once again I just felt like my 16 year old niece might enjoy this book. The author evoked feeling from me but unfortunately for me it was annoyance.

Historia
Dellarobia Turnbow is a restless farm wife who gave up her own plans when she accidentally became pregnant at 17. Now, after a decade of domestic disharmony on a failing farm, she encounters a shocking sight: a silent, forested valley filled with what looks like a lake of fire. She can only understand it as a cautionary miracle, but it sparks a raft of other explanations from scientists, religious leaders, and the media.

I could listen to Barbara's all day and I did!
Revisado: 05-27-15
If you could sum up Flight Behavior in three words, what would they be?
A lecture about the environment couched in character development.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
The narration is poetic and there were some very sweet moments in the story.
Any additional comments?
If you haven't listened to Barbara Kingsolver before then I recommend listening to the Prodigal Summer instead. I may go back and listen to this story again. It left an impression on me but I need to listen again to pin it down.

Quick - Listen to it before school gets out!
Revisado: 05-27-15
Would you consider the audio edition of Siblings Without Rivalry to be better than the print version?
I was able to get through it more quickly by listening to it.
Have you listened to any of Kathe Mazur’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
no
Any additional comments?
I'm so happy my book club decided to read Siblings without Rivalry before school gets out. This title has been languishing on my to read list for awhile. I thought I would get some tips on how to stop the bickering, but the book is more than that. It isn't just for parents. I was constantly reflecting on my own upbringing. I had a real "moment" with this book. I clearly see why I have the relationship that I do with my brother. Moving forward I'm so motivated to change my approach to my kids.
