Historia
Peter Turchin, one of the most interesting social scientists of our age, has infused the study of history with approaches and insights from other fields for more than a quarter century. End Times is the culmination of his work to understand what causes political communities to cohere and what causes them to fall apart, as applied to the current turmoil within the United States.

Great book. Laid out social facts and history and proved it's case. Will be doing a second run after some homework.

This group didn't mix very well. These stories have historically been "Holy Ish I barely or didn't survive." Some authors, you'll noticed the trend, think an overpowered protagonist is the new better way to tell these stories. Maybe I'm too old for this ish....

This was an assault on the ears. Worst than Skippy's showtunes. Poorly put together, poorly voice acted, poorly cut. The only reason I finished it was for story continuity. I found myself fast-forwarding through a lot useless noise and content. Book wasn't a very enjoyable experience.

Tropes, Character Flaws and Mary Sue!
Revisado: 09-01-23
Wow... It had potential, but this was pretty awful. The book is full of every type of uncreative trop you could think of. I had to check the publishing date because it could have easily been written in the 50's when it would've of been considered creative. There are impossible technological leaps, evil men, super women, racial superiority and lazy writing. Had to get through this book because I just like completing things. Don't let the ratings fool you.

Revisado: 02-16-23
This books reads like it could've been written in the 50's and departs from the usual military discipline these books have always portrayed. Sassy female CO's slapping arses and being overly tough??? Some seem like a cool "Black Widow" killers, but most are like bad renditions of Liz Taylor or Aud Hepburn. The story isn't much better. If your going to use "Underwater", the film, don't do a worst job than the movie! It was horrible. Beyond that it is okay running and gunning. I might have fallen asleep, but it seems like they lowered the bar on "Order Of The Centurion" qualifications and written accounts. Fella's I really hope this was an experiment gone awry. This is my first negative review of anything "Galaxy's Edge", I love this series and wish ya'll would ditch live action hopes and go the anime rout. I digress. If you pass on this you didn't miss a thing.....

Fun book to listen to. While it focuses on a general storyline their are plenty of interesting and entertaining spinoffs that allow for fantastic perspective of the entire event. Think the original "World War Z". It's definitely going to get another play as I'm sure I missed some good stuff.

Just awful why even do this Mr. Maberry?
Revisado: 05-13-22
These stories are insulting and unnecessary. I'm a minority and the one thing thing that has always attracted me to AVP material is that it's naturally diverse. Strong female characters are real woman (Xeno Ripley excluded), not Wonder women capable of whooping Arnolds arse! Racisms exists, but it's not shoved down your throat with stupid references to events this future has no way of remembering or would be overly concerned about. The "various authors" are clearly NOT science fiction writers and the narrators read the stories like they didn't care. Unfortunately the reviews are right. This really is trash.

Revisado: 03-10-22
Full of great nostalgia and pop culture that sneak up on you. I missed the first few references. Overall a great sci fi book that gives a good explanation of all those early science fiction movies devoid of minorities. It does this without drowning in racism. This is what happened, this is the result, a lot people are not fans as a result. Great book.

After a couple of WTF moments while listening I had to dial my racism/sexism/classism spectrometer down to the Racis... err.. Roaring 30's setting. Loved the story and the science seemed pretty good for what was known at the time. Reminded me of "Hot Fudge Sunday" aka Lucifer's Hammer. So if you like end of world cosmic bodies canceling out life on earth and the neat physical descriptions of what happens to our planet then this is a pretty good book. Just dial down that spectrometer...
