Historia
In the long history of American demagogues from Huey Long to Donald Trump, never has one man caused so much damage in such a short time as Senator Joseph McCarthy. We still use "McCarthyism" to stand for outrageous charges of guilt by association, a weapon of polarizing slander. From 1950 to 1954, McCarthy destroyed many careers and even entire lives, whipping the nation into a frenzy of paranoia, accusation, loyalty oaths, and terror. When the public finally turned on him, he came crashing down, dying of alcoholism in 1957.

Joe McCarthy, 70 years on
Revisado: 11-23-24
Tye has done a masterful job of research and writing. In the updated version read here, he traces the parallels between McCarthy and Trump, He offers great background on the man who knew them both well, Roy Cohn. Narration is very good.

Best series
Revisado: 11-18-23
I think Fiasco is among the very best history podcasts available. The research, construction, the final product - all exemplary. Even if you’ve lived through it, there’s still so much to learn. The AIDS Crisis and Vigilante are especially good.

Excellent
Revisado: 04-24-23
I was born in 1957, so I lived through all of this. But there was so much I had forgotten, or I had never known. The Fiasco producers have done a wonderful job of looking back at this era, from the perspective of 40 years (and one pandemic) later. I can’t recommend this enough.

Historia
Pete Townshend is one of the great figures in rock ‘n’ roll history. For almost 60 years, The Who have balanced the physical and the spiritual with introspective lyrics and inspirational music. But there is a part of Townshend’s story—and The Who’s—that has not been examined. These are his Words + Music. In the Audible Original Pete Townshend: Somebody Saved Me, the songwriter takes us through the period between the 1978 death of Who drummer Keith Moon and the 2002 loss of bassist John Entwistle.

Pete is always worth hearing from.
Revisado: 07-19-22
What a delight. I have been a Pete Townshend mega-fan for well over 40 years. Here, he recounts the years between Keith Moon’s death in 1978, and John Entwistle’s in 2003. As always, he’s bright, blunt and articulate. The redos of some of the songs from the period are fantastic.
