Historia
Did you know that there are more penises than women in the Bayeux Tapestry? That the Peasants’ Revolt of 1381 was started and propelled by women who were protesting a tax on women? Or that Charles Darwin believed not just that women were naturally inferior to men, but that they’d evolve to become ever more inferior? These are just a few of the startling findings you will learn from listening to Philippa Gregory’s Normal Women. In this ambitious book, she tells the story of England over 900 years, for the very first time placing women—some fifty per cent of the population—center stage.

Best book I’ve ever read.
Revisado: 07-14-24
This book was inspiring, motivating, enlightening, and entertaining all at once. I read a lot of nonfiction history books, but the detail, little known facts, and overarching theme of sisterhood in this work set it apart from anything I have read before. I’ve recommended it to my sister who immediately bought it and two days later told me how great it was as well. If you like learning new things about human history, this is an incredible read you shouldn’t pass up.

Historia
Social scientist Brené Brown has ignited a global conversation on courage, vulnerability, shame, and worthiness. Her pioneering work uncovered a profound truth: Vulnerability—the willingness to show up and be seen with no guarantee of outcome—is the only path to more love, belonging, creativity, and joy. But living a brave life is not always easy: We are, inevitably, going to stumble and fall.

I’ve read a lot of self help books and this is at the top of the list of life-changing texts for me. Comparable to Codependent No More in the quantity of eye-opening realizations I encountered with each chapter. Cannot recommend this highly enough.

I have countless audiobooks in my library on meditation, hypnosis, mindfulness, and positive affirmations. This one is different in that is the one I keep coming back to because it really helps. It is short so you can start your day without losing an hour of your life and I really saw changes in myself after I'd been listening to it and internalizing the heartfelt messages. The author narrates it herself and her voice is soothing and sincere. I've owned it for almost a decade and I am just coming back to it again as I look for a solution to my anxiety right now after a chronic illness diagnosis. I haven't listened in a while and realize I've been missing it.

A la Georgette Heyer
Revisado: 03-07-21
A beautiful love story with compelling characters who are truly likable. Reminded me of Georgette Heyer without being an exact replica. The style of writing is poetic and displays a level of real talent seldom found in a typical romance. I loved this entire trilogy.

Historia
Strangers meet, romance blossoms. But there's a test...A classic fairytale retold. Good English families all have a house in the country with a deer park, a trout stream, and an army of gardeners. They should have a son and if it can be managed, he should be handsome. Cleverness isn't important. Daughters in limited quantities are fine so long as they are pretty. Bastards are inconvenient and best ignored. It's not a big problem, unless you are one. Unfortunately, Sophy is.

Masterpiece a la Georgette Heyer
Revisado: 01-16-21
I’ve searched in vain for another regency romance novelist who could hold a candle to Georgette Heyer with believable characters, witty dialogue, and a clever storyline. Finally, I found one! The narrator also added to this book instead of detracting as so many over-dramatizations do. Well worth the time spent on the listen. It had me smiling throughout.

Poorly crafted original idea
Revisado: 05-07-18
The plot was creative, but the writer is not a gifted storyteller. The characters were two-dimensional and none of the bonds that developed were believable. The end was predicted by the main character halfway through the novel, but the reader predicts it much sooner. After that, there are no surprises, although I kept listening just in case. The style reminds me of how I wrote in high school when I read cheap romances and just wanted to jump to the happy ending in my head really quickly. Pretty bad.

Just phenomenal
Revisado: 04-20-18
This is not what the soundbites coming out of the media would have you believe. Instead it is an autobiographical account of the most formative moments across this man’s life, detailing private experiences that are sometimes inspiring, sometimes heartwarming, and sometimes heart-wrenching. Written in a conversational tone, the audiobook made me feel like he was next to me telling his story over coffee. I am left with a sense of respect and faith fir the men and women who serve our country in any capacity, and a renewed belief that although there is bad, there is also remarkable good. James Comey comes across as a man with more integrity and dedication to the truth than our country deserved. He is a thoughtful, compassionate born leader and we need more like him.

Fascinating
Revisado: 01-16-18
Riveting, informative, so well written that mundane details become exciting. I almost passed it up due to comments about the music- in total, music was about 1 minute of the entire recording, and was only for a few seconds at a time, so not a factor for me at all. The narrator was excellent and I am very happy I purchased this one.

The narration is robotic
Revisado: 12-06-17
I could not listen to this story, though I tried. I made it twenty minutes and had to turn it off. The narration has been over-produced and sounds like a computer talking. I will maybe but the book because I loved the only other novel I've read by her, Katherine. I'm really disappointed as the story itself had great reviews. I listened to a sample of another of hers as well and it is very similarly narrated.
