Historia
The definitive account of Germany's malign transformation under Hitler's total rule and the implacable march to war. This magnificent second volume of Richard J. Evans's three-volume history of Nazi Germany was hailed by Benjamin Schwartz of The Atlantic Monthly as "the definitive English-language account... gripping and precise." It chronicles the incredible story of Germany's radical reshaping under Nazi rule.

A great follow up to the original installment, I'm really looking forward to the 3rd and final installment. The chilling account brought forth thoughts of politics and tactics used by politicians today.

Historia
There is no story in 20th-century history more important to understand than Hitler’s rise to power and the collapse of civilization in Nazi Germany. With The Coming of the Third Reich, Richard Evans, one of the world’s most distinguished historians, has written the definitive account for our time.

Remarkable depth.
Revisado: 07-12-21
I have always studied World War II but only recently became interested in the details of how the nazi party rose to power. Considering current political circumstances in the Western Democracies, I wanted to learn how a political party mobilized 80 million people to cooperate in censorship, limitation of free expression, marginalization of fellow citizens, destruction of careers, livelihoods, hate based on political ideology, race etc. (The buildup to war is not covered here.) The most horrifying is the casual disregard of the collateral damage to families and children (aka innocents) by the political perpetrators of the repression, which is often violent. Methods I recognize in the news of today, hence "horrifying".
I have read a few others on this topic, and this is by far the most in depth.
Several reviewers complain about the narrator. I found the narrator's presentation to be ideal considering the subject matter. I did not mind his pausing, which he generally did after either a change in subject or following a critical fact. This allowed me to either shift gears or note that fact. I think people that find the presentation boring are not fully engaged in the subject matter and want to be entertained. This is not a book of entertainment, and not meant to be a compelling story.
It is a book in which anyone paying attention to current events will find frightening similarities in methods used to obtain power today that does not bode well for the notion of freedom established 200+ years ago founded in Judeo-Christian philosophy--not religious belief--rather philosophical doctrine: how the human race ought to conduct themselves individually, within communities, and larger civic constructs. While the specific agenda is different, the overarching goal--obtaining power--is similar, including the methods. And it's frightening, even horrifying.

Historia
In The Third Reich: A History of Nazi Germany, Thomas Childers shows how the young Hitler became passionately political and anti-Semitic as he lived on the margins of society. Fueled by outrage at the punitive terms imposed on Germany by the Versailles Treaty, he found his voice and drew a loyal following.

Remarkable. Up there with Psychology of Winning
Revisado: 08-22-20
Mr. Gowdy provides specific techniques on how to persuade without mashing declarative statements, rather making the other person defend their position with only asking questions. I think the concept beats those that teach you how to persuade using negative methods by far, partly because you will never stop learning either as you hear someone defend what they believe. The anecdotes are timely and poignant. Even if you don't agree with Mr. Gowdy's politics or his anecdotes in terms of their position, he uses them brilliantly to illustrate his points. If succeeding in life is important to you, beyond the book I mentioned in the title, this will give you the tools to enhance your ability to win in life.

United Nations Special Operations Command sent an elite expeditionary force of soldiers and pilots out on a simple recon mission, and somehow along the way they sparked an alien civil war. Now the not-at-all-merry band of pirates is in desperate trouble, again. Their stolen alien starship is falling apart, thousands of light years from home. The ancient alien AI they nicknamed Skippy is apparently dead, and even if they can by some miracle revive him, he might never be the same.

Historia
Things are going well for Decius Caecilius Metellus. He is Praetor Peregrinus, which means he has to judge a case or two, but those cases are outside of the city. His cases will be those dealing with foreigners, and all of Italy is his province. His first stop is Campania, "Italy’s most popular resort district". Decius and his wife, Julia, are happy for a change of scenery. But the good times end when, in a town near Vesuvius, a priest’s daughter is murdered. Decius must find her killer and keep the mob off a young boy who everyone blames but he believes to be innocent.
