Historia
In 1988, Sloan Hadfield's brother Ridge went fishing with their father and never came home. Their father was arrested and charged with murder. Ridge's body was never recovered, and Sloan's mother slowly descended into madness, insisting her son was still alive. Now, twenty years later, Sloan's life is unraveling. In the middle of a bitter divorce, she's forced to return to her rural Texas hometown when her mother is discharged from a mental health facility. Overwhelmed by memories and unanswered questions, Sloan returns to the last place her brother was seen all those years ago.

Wasn’t. Crazy about narration. To sweet voice for Sloan. Also severe naivety on her part. The dad was super typical of an entitled man. Hated hearing him too.

Story kept me interested. Did not like the narrator much. It was hard to tell who was speaking. Female voices sounded alike as did male voices.

Hard to pay attention.
Revisado: 02-03-14
What disappointed you about The Splendour Falls?
The narration made it hard for me to follow along. There may be a good story there but I couldn't pick up on it.
What could Susanna Kearsley have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?
She should have sounded younger as this book was about a younger person and Ms Kearsley sounded older.
How could the performance have been better?
Better shifts in the dialogue.
What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?
Disappointment. I was hoping it was as good as The Husbands Secret.
Any additional comments?
Would like my credit back.

Historia
Mrs. Sookie Poole of Point Clear, Alabama, has just married off the last of her daughters and is looking forward to relaxing and perhaps traveling with her husband, Earle. The only thing left to contend with is her mother, the formidable Lenore Simmons Krackenberry. Lenore may be a lot of fun for other people, but is, for the most part, an overbearing presence for her daughter. Then one day, quite by accident, Sookie discovers a secret about her mother's past that knocks her for a loop and suddenly calls into question everything she ever thought she knew about herself, her family, and her future.

Mom wasn't the only nut.
Revisado: 12-20-12
What disappointed you about My Mother Was Nuts?
Name dropping in the extreme. Never really showed any emotional connection with her mother except when telling about her dying.
Would you be willing to try another book from Penny Marshall? Why or why not?
Not is she was going to narrate it She should have taken breaks to blow her nose.
What didn’t you like about Penny Marshall’s performance?
Felt like she was reading just to get through with it. Also needed to blow her nose and not sniff while reading.
If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from My Mother Was Nuts?
The endless lists of names that didn't add anything to the story.
