The whole book is anecdotal. Not to discredit years of experience, the content is still valuable, but in a book, I want a larger sample size, study results, and more convincing evidence.

The book was about some family's ordinary life. The timeline jumped all over the place and was difficult to follow. No life lessons. No romance. No spies. No action. No disasters. Not a true story. If it were a biography, it would be a very good one, but it is fictional and pointless.

It's not data like quants, BI, statistics, etc, but the book does have interesting personal observations.

Reader doesn't pronounce Andrew Carnegie's name

Reader doesn't pronounce Andrew Carnegie's name correctly. He is mentioned often in the book. This is the same fameously wealthy man after whom Carnegie Hall is named.
The book is old and is filled with false theories about ether and vibrations of the mind. The premise behind the title is basically that if you obsess over getting money, it will happen. I think that is only partially true, but also unhealthy.
There were some interesting gems. I can see why it became a classic, but with today's science, it is not worth reading, even for the the sake of being well versed in the classics. I would highly recommend "The Millionaire Next Door" over this book. I would not recommend this book to anyone.

Would you listen to Music and the Brain again? Why?

Yes. There were many fascinating facts, and I don't remember them all. I love music, and want to understand it on every level.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Music and the Brain?

Humans have relative pitch perception, while most species have absolute pitch perception. That is why few people have perfect pitch, not just regular relative pitch perception. We perceive the octave, the fifth and other intervals because of that.

What does Professor Aniruddh D. Patel bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Music must be heard. I have a thorough enough understanding of music, I may have understood by reading, but I greatly appreciated the auditory examples, especially the illusions.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

I would say fascinated and amazed.

Would you try another book from Susan Gillis Chapman and/or Gabra Zackman?

No. I'm not interested in meditation related material. I do believe it can be beneficial, but it's not what I'm interested in.

Would you ever listen to anything by Susan Gillis Chapman again?

Same as above.

What about Gabra Zackman’s performance did you like?

The reading performance was the quality I expected.

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

Disappointment. I had expectations of the science of communication, but the content of the book didn't meet that expectation in the way I was looking for.

Any additional comments?

I bought this book with the expectation that it would be a university level research driven book about the science of communication. I wanted to analyze, not meditate.

As the authors write in their first book, we negotiate all the time. This is not about getting what you think you want. It's about arranging what is best; what is good for you and everyone. You must first change yourself before you can influence others to change to what is best. Others will not change for you especially if what you want is not best, but they will allow you to influence them to change for what is best. You must want what is best first. This book helps you find what you really want which is what is best; what everyone can agree on. As often as you negotiate with others, you negotiate with yourself many times more. This audiobook helps you make the best decisions for yourself and others.

I learned a few new things, but perhaps I was lucky in what I already did and didn't know. I think most things in this book are backed by the best modern research has to offer (keeping in mind we still don't know everything). I wasn't a fan of the reader. He mispronounced words like fructose and gluten. I also didn't like how many plugs there were for the author's website and other books. It's fine in the print version, but it's too much for an audio book. Overall though, it was a good book.

This book has excellent information explained simply. It is a must have. The readers take a different approach reading the book. It is frequently interrupted with instrumental rings and chimes to identify points and sections. I found them annoying. They also used other voices for examples and stories which was new to me, but I ended up liking it.

This book has great information that changes the way I look at habits. I also learned that I have habits I didn't know I had. The book might be condensed. Sometimes I had trouble following why something was related to habits, but it always made more sense later. Great book before new year resolutions.
