Historia
David Tatel has served nearly 30 years on America’s second highest court, the United States Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit, where many of our most crucial cases are resolved—or teed up for the Supreme Court. He has championed equal justice for his entire adult life; decided landmark environmental and voting cases; and embodied the ideal of what a great judge should be. Yet he has been blind for the past 50 of his 80-plus years.

Excellent memoir
Revisado: 03-01-25
I really enjoyed this book and not just because of vixen although she was part of why I wanted to read it. The author provided just enough detail and background to make often complex subjects understandable. The stories were very relatable and the message timing is…. Well let’s just say I wish he had written the book 6 months later than he did so that we could get his thoughts on what’s going on in the country right now. I was inspired by the strength of his marriage and his love for his family. Finally, I would like to express my thanks to the author of including Vixen’s bark at the end.

Historia
Alexei Navalny began writing Patriot shortly after his near-fatal poisoning in 2020. It is the full story of his life: his youth, his call to activism, his marriage and family, his commitment to challenging a world super-power determined to silence him, and his total conviction that change cannot be resisted—and will come. Patriot is Navalny’s final letter to the world: a moving account of his last years spent in the most brutal prison on earth; a reminder of why the principles of individual freedom matter so deeply; and a rousing call to continue the work for which he sacrificed his life.

Navalny’s memoir is funny, poignant, and powerful. I found myself binge listening. I was enthralled in both Navalny’s life and perspective. His fortitude is inspirational. Matthew Goode’s narration is excellent - capturing perfectly the emotions without overacting. A must read.

It’s therefore manna from heaven when an old friend comes to them in need of help.

Caimh McDonnell’s Dublin Trilogy have been my go to books for good fun. I love the richness of the characters, both major and minor. They’re funny, quirky and lovable. Bridget is one of my favorite contemporary heroines, she’s down-to-earth, caring and strong. Bridget literally kicks @ss. I gave this one 4 stars only because it wasn’t my favorite of the series ( the story was more predictable than the others ) and because I’m trying to give a realistic rating given this scale is suppose to rate ALL books in the history of literature. Morgan C. Jones does a fabulous job narrating them - his voices are original and his comedic timing is perfect, He naturally brings to life Mr. McDonnell’s novels, capturing all of the emotion and humor

Narrator spoiled the audiobook
Revisado: 01-09-23
Ellen Archer (an American) was completely miscast as the narrator of this novel. I was really looking forward to next part in the Jackson Brodie series, after Steven Crossley so perfectly brought One Good Turn to life. In contrast, Ms Archer’s butchered Scottish and Irish accents (not to mention her interpretation of the Queen’s English) was such a disappointment. I couldn’t even tell some of the characters apart during sections of dialogue because she lacked the range to give the Scottish police officers distinct the voices. Sadly, the dry humor that makes Jackson Brodie so fun was lacking because the narrator’s tone missed the mark. Since I enjoy Kate Atkinson, I decided to stick it out. The narration was more tolerable when sped up to 1.2 speed.

Great story paired with excellent narration. Steven Crossley does an amazing job with this book. Each character was identifiable brought vividly to life. Steven Crossley enhanced all of the dry humor. I caught myself laughing out loud. I wish he narrated all of the Jackson Brodie series

Revisado: 09-29-22
This audiobook was a lot of fun and so relatable. I thoroughly enjoyed both the story and the performance. I normally listen to classics or police procedurals, but was intrigued by the title because I happened to be feeling a bit like a forty-something f**k up. I laughed, smiled, and empathized with the characters (I hope to become Cricket one day). I’m glad I took a chance. Thank you, Ms. Potter, for the creativity and bravery!
