Full of Surprises

The mediocre reviews this has gotten from other reviewers make me wonder what they were expecting. The charm of this book is that it defies so many standard Ellery expectations. Without giving anything away, let me just say that this one veers from the standard formula somewhat, but in most rewarding ways. You still get your surprise solution that fits the facts as laid out in the tale, but...well...it's free and the worst that can happen is that you decide it's not for you. But if you stick it out, you'll be amply rewarded.

This is a great collection, wonderfully narrated. But, and it is a huge but, there is no table of contents to help you find a specific story.
The listings of Chapter 1, Chapter 2 are useless when you're looking for a particular story.

A Real Nonthriller

From the unlikeable main character to the mundane story, the biggest surprise is how little happens. Normally I'm a big Grisham fan, but the chief benefit of this one is that it may cure your insomnia.
