While working for an oil company in the bitter cold of winter, they soon encounter a ferocious polar bear who seems hell-bent on their destruction. A great ride!
Revisado: 12-05-24
I’ve listened to every Longmire book and this book didn’t disappoint. Yes, it’s a bit shorter than most but the listen was still over 4 hours long. George Guidall reads these books flawlessly. Listening to these books is a ‘comfort food’ for me. I can’t wait for the next one.

Historia
Billy Sothern's Down in New Orleans illustrates, in very human and heartbreaking ways, how the horrors that emerged during and following Hurricane Katrina existed long before the storm. These beautifully composed stories not only reveal the dignity—and amazing grit and grace—of the hurricane's survivors; they also illuminate larger truths about the urgent issues of our day.

Reads like a novel
Revisado: 10-19-22
I heard about this author’s recent death at age 45, and then read about his book in the online obituaries about him. I was interested to read it, as the author sounded really interesting and I love New Orleans. I could not find a printed copy to purchase (written in 2007, it seems to be out of print), but fortunately found a recording of it on Audible. I purchased it and just finished listening to it. Billy was a ‘crusading defense’ attorney (per the NYT) and a progressive activist living in New Orleans and representing men on death row when Katrina hit. He was from New York but called New Orleans his home. The book is (in my opinion) excellent. It reads like a John Grisham novel - somewhat personal but mostly filled with a wonderful history of the city, it’s politics, and a truthful analysis of government’s role in the corruption and racism at play in New Orleans when Katrina hit. I loved the book; it was a quick read because I couldn’t put it down.

Historia
It is a cold January morning, and Shetland lies beneath a deep layer of snow. Trudging home, Fran Hunter's eye is drawn to a splash of color on the frozen ground, ravens circling above. It is the strangled body of her teenage neighbor, Catherine Ross. The locals on the quiet island stubbornly focus their gaze on one man - loner and simpleton Magnus Tait.

Enjoyed the ride!
Revisado: 03-04-18
I enjoyed the story. I came to Ann Cleeves after watching a couple of episodes of Shetland on Netflix. This is the first book in the series. The story is different in many ways from the TV show, so it is not predictable. One still isn’t sure ‘whodunnit’ until the end. The reader was very good - able to carry different voices and accents well to bring the production to life. One reviewer complained about the chapter introductions. I’m used to that; I listen to lots of books so it wasn’t a distraction. I plan to keep listening to the series. And to keep watching the series on Netflix!

A complete joy to read and contemplate. Chopra has met the call for reason centered faith theology and spoils atheism's claim on rationality.

Historia
In a wicked conspiracy reaching across the Mexican border, Tularosa pits a jaded ex-cop against tight-lipped Army personnel, hired thugs, and smooth-talking outlaws. Forced into retirement by a crippling gunshot wound, Santa Fe policeman Kevin Kerney seeks solitude on a small New Mexico ranch far from the nearest neighbor. But when his godson disappears without a trace into the harsh, high-security desert of the White Sands Missile Range, Kerney emerges to search for the young soldier.

Would like to hear the entire series!
Revisado: 10-14-12
I enjoyed it thoroughly. I'm a long time Tony Hillerman and more recently Craig Johnson fan, and love George Guidall's narration. And New Mexico is my favorite vacation spot. I started with Hard Country which actually is McGarrity's most recent book but gives a nice background for the Kevin Kerney series (it's Kerney's old family history). Now I've just finished Tularosa, the first in the Kevin Kerney series. Unfortunately, Audible doesn't have the entire series....so I'm scrambling with Amazon and area libraries to fill in the gaps. Please Audible, get busy! Thanks.
