Historia
From the author of The Emperor of All Maladies, winner of the Pulitzer Prize, and The Gene, a #1 New York Times bestseller, comes his most spectacular book yet, an exploration of medicine and our radical new ability to manipulate cells. Rich with Mukherjee’s revelatory and exhilarating stories of scientists, doctors, and the patients whose lives may be saved by their work, The Song of the Cell is the third book in this extraordinary writer’s exploration of what it means to be human.

Learned but very complex to hear and absorb all details.
Revisado: 01-22-23
The narrator was exceptional: so many technical details and he just sailed through all the complexities with intelligence and clarity.
I should have read the book. There were too many details for the right side of my brain to follow quickly enough.
Mukherjee is a skilled writer and I especially enjoyed his analogies; they always clarified what was often very tricky to follow literally.

Better alternatives for Chekhov
Revisado: 03-04-21
I’ve listened to several collections of Chekhov short stories on Audible. Anthony Heald and Richard Armitage have more sensitivity, subtlety, and feeling for Chekhov’s texts. This narrator has a powerful sonorous voice that booms constantly and he often sounds angry and aggressive and there’s little variation or subtlety. I grew weary listening to him and wondered if he had enjoyed recording these stories.
I did listen to the whole collection because I was interested in the new translations. I should have bought the book.

Historia
A Russian author, playwright, and physician, Anton Chekhov is widely considered one of the best short-story writers of all time. Having influenced such writers as Ernest Hemingway, Raymond Carver, and James Joyce, Chekhov’s stories are often noted for their stream-of-consciousness style and their vast number.

Anthony Heald is perfection
Revisado: 02-17-21
These are lesser known Chekhov stories but Anthony Heald’s readings elevate them to charming, disarming, droll, lyrical or tragic as each story requires and they are a pleasure to the ear , heart and mind.
