Historia
Rusty is a retired judge attempting a third act in life with a loving soon-to-be wife, Bea, with whom he shares both a restful home on an idyllic lake in the rural Midwest and a plaintive hope that this marriage will be his best, and his last. But the peace that’s taken Rusty so long to find evaporates when Bea’s young adult son, Aaron, living under their supervision while on probation for drug possession, disappears. If Aaron doesn’t return soon, he will be sent back to jail.

Tense moments of intrigue
Revisado: 01-27-25
This third book of the Turow series did not disappoint. Well written courtroom drama. Quite unexpected ending was disturbing but tied up all the loose ends tidily. Maybe a bit too tidy but acceptable on theory.

Good story; Poorly Edited
Revisado: 01-13-25
I enjoy Turow’s books very much. Any novel with well fleshed out characters and plot intrigues me.
Turow is an attorney as were several who read his manuscript. One would expect that a glaring error would have been spotted. There were references to the “lawsuit” - the court case featuring Rusty Sabich. It was not a lawsuit but rather a criminal trial. Later in the book it was properly stated as a trial.
Being the wife of an attorney and on the periphery of courtroom proceedings for many years, this error was distracting.
Also the narrator’s mispronunciation of “recuse” as “recruse”. Ugh. Someone should have caught that.
In any case, enjoyable despite the errors.

For much of her life, Anne Morrow, the shy daughter of the U.S. ambassador to Mexico, has stood in the shadows of those around her, including her millionaire father and vibrant older sister, who often steals the spotlight. Then Anne, a college senior with hidden literary aspirations, travels to Mexico City to spend Christmas with her family. There she meets Colonel Charles Lindbergh, fresh off his celebrated 1927 solo flight across the Atlantic. Enthralled by Charles’s assurance and fame, Anne is certain the celebrated aviator has scarcely noticed her. But she is wrong.

Revisado: 01-03-25
I truly was not aware of the man behind the fame. It’s given me a different perspective on his life as well as to lose respect for him. Glad I stayed with this book to the end. The reader was difficult to listen to, the vocal inflections were annoying at times.

I was prepared to finally dislike a novel by Lianne Moriarty, one of my favorite authors. Then I got to the middle and couldn’t stop listening! Intriguing format. Loved the way the characters played out their individual roles. Satisfying conclusion with an unexpected epilogue. Well done!

I waited for months for this book to be released. It did not disappoint! Third in the Travis Divine novels, it is hard to say which was best. Love Baldacci’s writing! The various narrators were perfectly cast and read it expertly.

Storyline was fascinating
Revisado: 10-22-24
…but Jewell took way to long to get to the point. At times the causes for Melody’s lack of memory were intimated as sinister when they were not. Still, I had to stay with the novel to get to the bottom of the story. The narrator was excellent with just enough voices to the characters to make them seem realistic.

A difficult book to listen to…
Revisado: 09-16-24
Good storyline but the narrator’s breathy voice made every sentence and scene seem mysterious, creepy and strangely suspenseful though most were not. It was hard for me to stay with the book to its conclusion. The reason I did was to find out who-done-it.
Can’t recommend.

Historia
When Lydia takes a job running the Senior Citizens’ Social Club three afternoons a week, she assumes she’ll be spending her time drinking tea and playing gentle games of cards. The members of the Social Club, however, are not at all what Lydia was expecting. From Art, a failed actor turned kleptomaniac to Daphne, who has been hiding from her dark past for decades to Ruby, a Banksy-style knitter who gets revenge in yarn, these seniors look deceptively benign—but when age makes you invisible, secrets are so much easier to hide.

High-powered businesswoman Lana Rubicon has a lot to be proud of: her keen intelligence, impeccable taste, and the L.A. real estate empire she’s built. But when she finds herself trapped 300 miles north of the city, convalescing in a sleepy coastal town with her adult daughter Beth and teenage granddaughter Jack, Lana is stuck counting otters instead of square footage—and hoping that boredom won’t kill her before the cancer does.

Sloooow moving story!
Revisado: 07-31-24
Probably 50% of this book could have been eliminated or certainly condensed. Interesting storyline but the snail paced development was unnecessary.
The errors in the geographical location were glaring. I live in the California Central Coast & found the errors distracting. Same with the narrator’s horrible pronunciations of the Spanish words & names. So poorly pronounced. One need not be fluent to at least know how to properly say the names. I cringed at the mangled attempts.
I cannot recommend this audio book.
