Historia
Twelve-year-old Jack knows they shouldn't go but is unable to persuade his parents not to take the planned trip to the Lake District. Something was going to happen, but what? The weird feelings he had were always so fuzzy and they didn't always make sense. Maybe it was just because he'd have to spend time with his pampered cousin, Rosie? Anyway, it was nearly Christmas and what could go wrong with just staying in some cabin in the woods?

Like a modern day Robert Louis Stevenson adventure
Revisado: 06-28-15
This book was really enjoyable... Great for kids around the 8-10 mark I would think. Preteens I think would find the characters engaging and the narration exciting. The story is about a young boy named Jack who finds himself paired in a survival adventure with a spoiled rotten cousin named Rosie that he can't stand. The book reminded me very much of those great kids adventure movies that Disney used to make... like Escape from Witch Mountain. It has that young-hero in the wilderness feel that also reminded me of My Side of the Mountain. If you think your kids would enjoy a modern spin on the Kidnapped or Treasure Island kind of adventure - I think this would be a big hit. The narration is lively with lots of humor and, even though moots the book is dialogue between two kids, it holds your attention really well.

Fancying himself broken hearted, Alex consented to a loveless union with Lady Felicity, daughter of wealthy Lord Morecombe. Five years into his marriage, his first love is widowed, and Alex's wife seems to believe he will waste no time making Lady Elizabeth his mistress.

A classy romance with charm.
Revisado: 06-13-15
I thought this was a lovely read and the characters caught my attention. I liked that the two leading characters were both flawed and were often their own worst enemy... It was fun to see the inner thoughts and peek at both character's perspective on the same events. The writer is excellent at painting the period... and it felt absolutely like an authentic novel of the time. I liked that the romance in the novel was truly that - romantic - and again, in keeping with the style of Austen etc. If you're looking for an enjoyable and charming tale to tug at the heart, this one is a treat. I also enjoyed the narrator - he brought a wide variety of color to the various characters and didn't simply 'read' the book... He brings the dialogue to life and it felt at times like I was listening to Masterpiece Theatre kind of performance.

Historia
In the frigid winter of 1891, with the nation still reeling from the Barings bank crisis, Inspector Philemon Raft returns from an involuntary sabbatical and is tasked with solving the kidnapping of highly placed peer Alice Dewberry. Thrust into a sordid underworld where the upper classes indulge in disreputable overseas investments designed to fatten their pocketbooks, Raft finds himself at loose ends without his companion, Constable Freddie Crook.

So much more than m/m erotica!!!
Revisado: 05-27-15
This book is so rich and detailed... It's obvious the author has done a vast amount of research into creating a believable Jack the Ripper era Victorian London. Inspector Raft is a really engaging leading character in the Agatha Christie vein... (in my head I imagined Ioan Gruffudd or Alan Cumming)... with a great duality and inner struggle that weaves an even greater mystery into the narrative arc. I am very much hoping they release the rest of the series on audiobook because I was enchanted by the versatility and characterizations by the narrator. He does an incredible job creating a huge cast of characters with theatrical aplomb. It reminded me Jim Dale doing Peter and the Starcatchers or Harry Potter. Although the book is m/m romance that is only the tiniest sliver of what makes the a really arresting work of mystery fiction. Don't discount it as 'gay pulp'... this is a really cool novel.
