Historia
Left with an estate on the brink of bankruptcy after their father's death, Lady Marigold Fairfax and her brother open a private investigation firm marketed to the elite . . . to spy on the elite. Dubbed The Imposters, Ltd., their anonymous group soon becomes the go-to for the crème of society when they want answers delivered surreptitiously. But the many secrets Marigold learns about her peers pale in comparison to her shock when she and her brother are hired to investigate her best friend's father as a potential traitor.

Historia
Edith Wharton (1862-1937) was a Pulitzer Prize-winning American novelist and short story writer. She was nominated for the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1927, 1928 and 1930. Among her most popular and terrifying tales are the many masterly ghost stories which she wrote in her early career. "Afterward" is a dramatic story of the most mysterious ghost of all. When Ned and Mary Boyne move to a remote and unrenovated manor house in Dorsetshire, their list of desired features includes a resident ghost.

Be careful what you wish for...
Revisado: 10-26-20
So... you think you want a residential ghost? Well, okay. Just be careful what you wish for!
I nearly stopped listening at one point, but something compelled to continue. This short ghostly tale softly, gently drew me in and held me fast well beyond its conclusion.
A good listen on a rainy day.

Revisado: 03-11-20
While I don’t, as yet, find these characters as appealing as Cherringham’s Jack & Sarah, I’m willing to invest in the next episode. Hopefully, Harry & Kat’s Mydworth adventures will become another addictive short read/listen!

Joana Starnes Austen variations do not disappoint!
Revisado: 11-11-19
Heart in my throat a few times wondering if Darcy & Elizabeth will ever find their HEA! Will they ever just speak plainly to each other? Don’t think I’ve read a P&P variation following this premise.
Joana Starnes never disappoints!

A “Dramedy” of Errors!
Revisado: 09-16-19
Almost Shakespeare’s in it’s plot, The Subsequent Proposal is a mixture of dramatic and comedic elements! This book is one of Joana Starnes’ earlier Austen Variations and is a masterly blend of two beloved novels- Pride & Prejudice, and Persuasion. As the first chapter opened, I was annoyed to hear Mr. Darcy proposing to someone other than Elizabeth, but I quickly grasped and accepted the premise. And once again it’s a pleasure to listen to the gifted narration of Stevie Zimmerman!

Historia
When Colonel Fitzwilliam's disclosures are interrupted by the bearer of distressing news from Longbourn, Miss Elizabeth Bennet is compelled to accept an offer she would have otherwise dismissed out of hand. An offer of marriage from the all-too-proud Mr. Darcy. Yet how is she to live with a husband she hardly knows and does not love?

Excellent take on Austen’s Pride & Prejudice
Revisado: 09-15-19
The author successfully guides us on an alternate route to a classic HEA. I loved riding this emotional roller coaster as Darcy & Elizabeth marry before their personal issues with pride and prejudice are addressed.
Joana Starnes is one of the best Austen variation writers I’ve read to date! This story line remains cohesive and well paced, and beloved characters are treated with respect even as they are artfully enhanced by the author.
Listeners are skillfully drawn in and held to the end by the inimitable narrative talents of Stevie Zimmerman.

Well worth a credit!
Revisado: 06-20-19
“Your pre-order is now available.” - The Audible email subject line from Tuesday, June 18th. Downloaded Wednesday; finished today, June 20th. The Brontë Plot is amazing! Every character is worth knowing. Like each of us, they are products of both nature and nurture, they are flawed, and they are redeemable!
I love a book that persuades me to look inward, leading me to be honest with myself and to evaluate my motives. And books whose characters are so well drawn that I care about what happens to them after the novel ends are a special treat!
If you haven’t read this book, do yourself a favor... Google it. Read the description on Audible, Amazon, or at https://katherinereay.com/books/the-bronte-plot/
Then buy it or borrow it and read it or listen to it!
