Light, Mindless Story with OK Narration
Revisado: 09-28-24
I sometimes enjoy a lightly entertaining book that doesn't require deep thought and analysis, and this story provides that. I had some difficulty with the narrator, however. Her southern accent wasn't horrible, but sometimes her pacing, especially when voicing the main character at a few points, was quite annoying. As a native southerner myself, we don't generally speak that slow. In fact, I found it to be a wee bit offensive as it plays into an ugly stereotype of the South. As another reviewer mentioned, it makes the character appear "Gumpish".

Historia
In the brooding, dark landscape of England, with its rolling hills and forgotten castles, the dark breeds evil in every shadow. Well, almost every shadow. Some of them have stupid in them instead.

Jarring narration and pubescent adults
Revisado: 08-16-24
I like a good dark comedy but I had a hard time reading this book. I found the storyline interesting, yet it was difficult at times to stick with the story all the way through since my enjoyment was reduced by a bad narration and the author appearing to be a hormonal teenager obsessed with his own and everyone else's personal body parts, as well as lacking a basic understanding of women. The narrator spoke with an odd cadence and sounded to be around 70+ years old. This was jarring when reading from the 35 year old hero's point of view. Equally annoying was the hero and his friends acting like pubescent boys. It was funny the first few times, but the humor was lost by the 235th time. I will not be purchasing books from this author again.

Historia
As time has passed, Dr. Renee Caisson has begun to see the demonic, alien August as more than a research subject or an unlikely colleague—they’ve become friends. And together, she and August have helped the two societies of Nextdoor and Earth through the confusion of first contact, the danger of misunderstandings, and the anger of mistreatment. But when a popular blogger and conspiracy theorist twists August’s words, an uproar ensues, turning a powerful section of human society against the Neighbors—and resulting in Renee’s house arrest.

The storyline was very interesting.

Good story. Bad narration. The premise is great but the narrator is difficult to understand, as well as annoying. The slow pace, low voice, and vocal fry - enough already.
