Historia
From the Kwik-Stoppe-Shoppe to the Pot O' Gold Mobile Home Park, there isn't much glamour in Maggody...but this flyspeck Arkansas town is about to become famous. When a Hollywood production company chooses Maggody as a backdrop for an X-rated Ozarks Romeo and Juliet, the locals are starstruck. And as Maggody is flooded with washed-up actors, ruthless producers, and a cynical crew, the townsfolk will do anything for a close-up - even if it means resorting to murder.

This is my favorite “Cozy” mystery series, and Courtney Patterson’s reading brings even more to the story.

Great story made better by great reader!
Revisado: 08-31-23
The Maggody series is hilarious, bitingly satirical and entertaining at every turn.
Patterson‘s rendering is masterful- making it even better- which I didn’t know was even possible!

Historia
Denise Farber has just moved back to New Orleans with her mom and stepdad. They left in the wake of Hurricane Katrina and have finally returned, wagering the last of their family's money on fixing up an old, rundown house and converting it to a bed and breakfast. Nothing seems to work around the place, which doesn't seem too weird to Denise. The unexplained noises are a little more out of the ordinary, but again, nothing too unusual. But when floors collapse, deadly objects rain down, and she hears creepy voices, it's clear to Denise that something more sinister lurks hidden here.

Just get "The Pumpkin Plan" and save your time
Revisado: 03-22-18
I'm guessing this is a book that the Venture Capitalist turned Stanford MBA author wrote partially as his thesis. It's mostly from a large corporate POV, with military and large corporate history examples. So if you're a white male business excutive over 40, who digs quotes from big business gurus and military anecdotes, go ahead. Read it and feel like you're keeping up.
On the OTHER HAND, if A/B website testing, survey monkey and running a small business isn't all news to you, read "The Pumpkin Plan", get more practical advice than pedantic rambling and be more entertained to boot.
Returning this snore fest. Can't even finish it.

Not your typical boring diet book, this is a tart-tongued, no-holds-barred wakeup call to all women who want to be thin. With such blunt advice as "soda is liquid Satan" and "you are a total moron if you think the Atkins Diet will make you thin", it's a rallying cry for all savvy women to start eating healthy and looking radiant. Unlike standard diet books, it actually makes the reader laugh out loud with its truthful, smart-mouthed revelations.

That annoying Born again Vegan friend in book form
Revisado: 06-10-17
The book starts well- the first chapters on food additives/caffeine are well researched. BUT then the authors "secret to skinny" is revealed: Eat vegan. Along with the same badly researched "Humans are meant to be vegetarian" propaganda. (No. We're omnivores. Same as Chimps.) Oh, and the same disgusting anti-meat propaganda I can get just by asking my newest vegan buddy to lunch at a burger joint. Look, I can't eat vegan by doctors orders..but I do try to limit my meat intake. But bad science and snark (and hello? hidden agenda!) turn me off.

Historia
The venerable Herbert Ungley wouldn't have been caught dead without his toupee. So when his landlady's cat dragged it into her kitchen, Betsy Lomax knew something was amiss. When she found old Ungley lying behind the Balaclavian Society clubhouse, she knew it was murder. And when the police chief called it an accident, she knew it was time to call Professor Peter Shandy, whose success at sleuthing had already surpassed his fame as father of the world-renowned rutabaga, the Balaclava Buster.

Poor reading nearly ruins great book
Revisado: 04-07-17
The charming and erudite Peter Shandy books are based in a fictional New England town. Yet, this reader insists on making the townsfolk sound like Southern hillbillies, the Swedish university president talk like a cut-rate Smaug, and mispronounces words jarringly. Many funny moments are plowed over in a smug near monotone, and it is only the story that almost saves this book from a careless, ill-prepared reading. Charlotte Macleod deserves better.
