Historia
Jordan Sable, a prosperous undertaker turned political boss, has controlled the Black vote in St. Louis for decades. Sara, his equally formidable wife, runs the renowned funeral establishment that put the Sable name on the map. In Love with Sable!
Revisado: 02-22-25
I like how fast the story moves through history as narrated fiction. Each chapter is packed with action and suspense while sharing a part of history as only Gail Milissa Grant can do.. The dialogue and high drama keep you intrigued and wanting more. Thus, my only disappointment was the ending.

From the schism between Rome and Constantinople to the rise of the T'ang Dynasty, from the birth of Muhammad to the crowning of Charlemagne, this erudite book tells the fascinating, often violent story of kings, generals, and the peoples they ruled.

Great storytelling
Revisado: 04-27-24
My only regret is that there wasn’t more. It seems odd to cover hundreds of years of history and write it was too short but it was.

Historia
In another time and place, E. Gab Blackman and William Sousa "Sou" Bridgeforth might have been as close as brothers, but in 1950s Nashville they remained separated by the color of their skin. Gab, a visionary yet opportunistic radio executive, saw something no one else did: a vast and untapped market with the R&B scene exploding in Black clubs across the city. He defied his industry, culture, government, and even his own family to broadcast Black music to a national audience.

The Ride of Your Life
Revisado: 09-22-23
Night Train to Nashville is a wonderful fictionalized historical novel that brings to life a missing piece of the history of R&B. Bringing great, real characters to life, like Gabe, Sou and Haas, bring readers into this powerful story. It is funny, heartbreaking, and gritty. It is a work of art and powerful storytelling. Blackman’s recollection and storytelling, with Sou’s daughter’s assistance on telling the Bridgeforth-side of the story, is compelling and sometimes spellbinding.
The book brings to life two different, yet converging perspectives of life in Nashville in the mid 20th Century. It’s a must read for anyone who loves American historical fiction based on the lives of complex people on opposite sides of the color line but with shared values and more similarities than differences.
Thoroughly enjoyed the audiobook.

Historia
Never is an extraordinary novel, full of heroines and villains, false prophets and elite warriors, jaded politicians and opportunistic revolutionaries. It brims with cautionary wisdom for our times, and delivers a visceral, heart-pounding story that transports listeners to the brink of the unimaginable.

Not My Fav KF Novel
Revisado: 07-27-22
I am not sure why I hated this novel. I think it’s because it became predictable. Also, some parts made no sense. I don’t think KF did a good job of portraying women though he did a good job of breaking stereo-types. The first bad decision, starving a nation, should not have been made lightly. Leader’s understand the domino affect. Great leaders can see from A to Z. They are not the idiots portrayed in this book.
