Historia
After Tova Sullivan’s husband died, she began working the night shift at the Sowell Bay Aquarium, mopping floors and tidying up. Keeping busy has always helped her cope, which she’s been doing since her eighteen-year-old son, Erik, mysteriously vanished on a boat in Puget Sound over thirty years ago. Tova becomes acquainted with curmudgeonly Marcellus, a giant Pacific octopus living at the aquarium. Marcellus knows more than anyone can imagine but wouldn’t dream of lifting one of his eight arms for his human captors—until he forms a remarkable friendship with Tova.

Historia
Marie-Laure lives with her father in Paris near the Museum of Natural History, where he works as the master of its thousands of locks. When she is six, Marie-Laure goes blind and her father builds a perfect miniature of their neighborhood so she can memorize it by touch and navigate her way home. When she is 12, the Nazis occupy Paris and father and daughter flee to the walled citadel of Saint-Malo, where Marie-Laure’s reclusive great-uncle lives in a tall house by the sea. With them they carry what might be the museum’s most valuable and dangerous jewel.

Memorable listening experience
Revisado: 05-12-15
Would you listen to All the Light We Cannot See again? Why?
Yes, in time
Who was your favorite character and why?
Werner was my favorite character. There is some Werner in all of us, knowing we should do the "right thing", but not being able to act until some point in time when we have had "enough".
What does Zach Appelman bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
I was able to focus on all the details instead of glossing over some of the writing as I sometimes do when I am caught up in a parts of a book.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Yes
Any additional comments?
I recommend either this version or the usual hard cover. Might be a good gift for a friend, family.

At best - mediocre
Revisado: 05-12-15
This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?
Someone who enjoys very simple things in life and has not read better mystery stories.
What could Heather Blake have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?
Better dialog, delete the "care bear" comments. If hearing the phrase made the main character sick, repeating it many times doesn't do much for the reader/listener except to want to turn off the book.
How did the narrator detract from the book?
I think the southern accent combined with the dialog did not work for me.
If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from A Potion to Die For?
The boyfriend dialog should be re-written and part of the heroine's thought processes could be improved. Women are not really that naïve or air-headed.

Historia
Lawrence Durrell's evocative memoir of living in Cyprus, just before the Greek/Turkish partition. This is a touching and atmospheric account of a place, now changed, where the two races lived side by side.

Interesting listening
Revisado: 05-28-13
Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?
Yes, it covered a part of history I knew little about.
What other book might you compare Bitter Lemons of Cyprus to and why?
This book is not quite like a Year in Provence.
What about Andrew Sachs’s performance did you like?
Good reading voice
Do you think Bitter Lemons of Cyprus needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?
All the interesting bits of information which would have made this listening more enjoyable was left out in this abridged edition. At least I believe it was since it seemed to skim over the time spent in Cyprus until the tensions broke into fighting. Even then, it did not really go into what happened after the author left and for those of us who are uninformed, it felt like some kind of conclusion to the situation was needed as far as this story was concerned.
