Historia
When the launch of their powerful new hypersonic missile ends in destruction, the Chinese government needs someone to blame. Was it a failure of engineering, or sabotage? The chief engineer on the project, Dr. Yang Dàyóu, is targeted as the scapegoat and arrested—unable to help his family as they are hunted down by the military. Op-Center’s Lt. Grace Lee is sent to China on a solo reconnaissance mission, but when she sees an opportunity to free the imprisoned scientist, she seizes it.

Clearly not a true Clancy novel
Revisado: 02-04-23
Too touchy feely, not Clancy style. Not sure if the authors are headed this way in general, or this is just a one-off, but not a fan.

There’s chaos in Hollywood at the end of the New Year’s Eve countdown. Working her graveyard shift, LAPD detective Renée Ballard waits out the traditional rain of lead as hundreds of revelers shoot their guns into the air. Only minutes after midnight, Ballard is called to a scene where a hardworking auto shop owner has been fatally hit by a bullet in the middle of a crowded street party.

Stick to writing thrillers

Leave politics out of it. Your leftist slant is fine, if not expected, but I’m not interested in hearing about it in books I’m paying for, for my entertainment.

Historia
The revised and updated edition of Lt. Col. Dave Grossman's modern classic about the psychology of combat, hailed by the Washington Post as "an illuminating account of how soldiers learn to kill and how they live with the experiences of having killed". In World War II, only 15 to 20 percent of combat infantry were willing to fire their rifles. In Korea, about 50 percent. In Vietnam, the figure rose to more than 90 percent. The good news is that most soldiers are loath to kill.

Revisado: 05-24-21
Excellent look into the conditioning to kill and the fallout after the fact. He had me all the way until he started talking about curbing the 1st and 2nd amendments. Not sure how he spent 25 years in the military and now thinks that’s a good idea...

Historia
While Congress debates the merits of continued funding for the stealth bomber, sinister forces have their own goals in mind. During a training exercise, a B-2 bomber disappears. When search efforts produce no evidence that the bomber crashed, the US Air Force has no choice but to acknowledge that one of its most secret and high-tech aircraft has been hijacked.
Recovery of the B-2 and its crew becomes the president's highest priority, and the Kremlin claims no knowledge of the missing aircraft. Finally, intelligence leads to what at first seems a very unlikely suspect: Cuba.

Good story, horrible narration
Revisado: 05-11-21
This is quite possibly the worst narration I’ve ever listened to. The over-exaggeration of accents to differentiate between characters was ridiculous. Half of the characters sounded like drunk ręt@rds, and one sounded like a drunken ręt@rd hick.

This is the book that ruined Cussler for me
Revisado: 01-11-21
Between his incessant opining of how America is the only country that hasn’t adopted the metric system (thankfully) to his turning this book into a massive collection of commercials for the products made by his highest bidders, it was just a disappointment. Brick is always fantastic, and Pitt stories are always great. Stop being such a shill for the metric system. Majority of your readers are American, and we’re obviously not interested in the metric system. Could have saved 2 hours off this recording by just leaving out the metric crap with all the conversions.

Come on, man
Revisado: 05-12-20
Jack Carr’s books carry the story on their own. I’m not sure why he had to turn every page into an advertisement for his buddies various products, companies, web pages and services. Makes the whole thing seem contrived. Just write the damned story, man. If you’re hurting that badly for cash, start your own line of coffee, or woobie, or something. All the shameless plugs for your boys just make it fake and detract from the story.

Disappointing
Revisado: 05-12-20
I love Baldacci’s works. I’ve read most, if not all of them. Disappointed that this one turned into a woke-scold, political statement about the gay lifestyle, global warming, anti-oil mess. Such a good writer, so much disappointment.

Historia
The previous edition of this now-classic book revealed the existence and subversive manipulations of "economic hit men". John Perkins wrote that economic hit men (EHM) "are highly paid professionals who cheat countries around the globe out of trillions of dollars. Their tools include fraudulent financial reports, rigged elections, payoffs, extortion, sex, and murder".

So if I understand it correctly, he was ok when the NSA was teaching him, he was ok as long as the companies were paying him, he was ok as long as it benefited him. As soon as he didn’t have a job and his girlfriend of the week told him her sob story, all of a sudden he was against it all. Then he was broke, and suddenly it wasn’t so bad any more. Then he was embarrassed at what his family might think (assuming they cared at all) so again it was bad. Then he was broke, and suddenly it wasn’t so bad again. There’s a term for someone like this, it’s a whore. After years and years of him making millions off the practice, the villain wasn’t the guy doing the deed, it was America. Because, obviously, it’s not his fault. He was just the one who retired at age 45.

Adapted from Decoded, Meltzer's hit show on the History network, History Decoded explores many fascinating and unexplained questions. Is Fort Knox empty? Why was Hitler so intent on capturing the Roman "Spear of Destiny"? What's the government hiding in Area 51? Where did the Confederacy's $19 million in gold and silver go at the end of the Civil War? Did Lee Harvey Oswald really act alone?
