Historia
Harvard symbologist Robert Langdon is summoned to deliver an evening lecture in the U.S. Capitol. Within minutes of his arrival, the night takes a bizarre turn. A disturbing object is discovered in the Capitol Building. The object is an ancient invitation, meant to usher its recipient into a long-lost world of hidden esoteric wisdom. And when Langdon's mentor is kidnapped, Langdon's only hope of saving him is to accept this invitation and follow wherever it leads him.

Not as good as it could have been.
Revisado: 09-23-09
I was really disappointed when I - without meaning to or trying - guessed the "twist" about 25% of the way into the book. At various moments, I kept thinking "wow, I hope [blank] doesn't = [blank]." Imagine my letdown, when it turns out that yes, [blank] did = [blank].
As mentioned in other reviews, the security crisis is overwraught and unbelievable, the surprise moments unsurprising and the symbol not very meaningful at all.
This isn't to say it's all bad - the story has the pacing and entertainment value you expect from Dan Brown. The back story is fascinating and it's all the little details that make the story.
But it's just not a worthy follow up to his last two books (I liked Angels & Demons better than DaVinci.) This book is better than the first two (Digital Fortress and Deception Point), but lacks much of what made A&D and TDVC so good.

Historia
Pocket has been Lear's cherished fool for years. So naturally Pocket is at his brainless, elderly liege's side when Lear demands that his kids swear to him their undying love and devotion. Of course Goneril and Regan are only too happy to brownnose Dad. But Cordelia believes that her father's request is kind of...well...stupid, and her blunt honesty ends up costing her her rightful share of the kingdom and earns her a banishment to boot.

Christopher Moore Strikes Again
Revisado: 08-16-09
Fool is classic Moore - bawdy, outrageous and always left of center. Be warned - if "heinous f**kery" offends you, this is not the book (or author) for you. But if you are a Moore-ophile, then his newest book is just what the doctor ordered. Narrator Morton is an excellent choice for the voice of Pocket, and the plot? It almost doesn't matter... just sit back, laugh and enjoy!

Historia
Barely 18-year-old heroine Valentine Shapiro got a raw deal in the parent lottery. Her father was part incubus demon, and her mother has never forgiven her for that. Life after high school is tough enough without having to go 15 rounds with your inner demon. Thrown out of the house by her mother, Val puts one foot in front of the other and does the only thing that seems to make any sense--she takes aim at the town vampires.

I'll never know if it's good or not
Revisado: 08-02-09
This book is a prime example of why the right narrator is almost EVERYTHING. The main character - a teenage girl - is voiced by what sounds like a not very bright 45 year old. The incongruity is so noticeable that I had to give up 10 minutes into the book.

Historia
At Princeton University, a famed geneticist dies inside a biohazard lab. In Rome, a Vatican archaeologist is found dead in St. Peter's Basilica. In Africa, a U.S. senator's son is slain outside a Red Cross camp. The three murders on three continents bear a horrifying connection: all the victims are marked by a Druidic pagan cross burned into their flesh. The bizarre murders thrust Commander Gray Pierce and Sigma Force into a race against time to solve a riddle going back centuries.

Good story, fair narrator
Revisado: 07-21-09
The book itself is interesting and well-paced; but the narrator - who is fine during straight narrative - should STOP trying to do accents. There are several foreign characters and the wide range of uniformly poorly done accents takes away from an otherwise good story.
