Kristin and Jenny’s marriage started with an ultimatum: to further their relationship, Kristin must watch Jenny's favorite show, Buffy the Vampire Slayer. With the terms set, they began a journey that has led them through seven seasons of the beloved genre show, a podcast rewatching the series with their newly minted listenership of “Scoobies,” unexpected success, and a divorce. Through it all, their love for Buffy and their commitment to their community held them together against the odds.

Jenny and Kristin could read the phone book and I’d buy it!
Revisado: 04-13-25
If you are a Buffering fan, this is a must have. If you’re not a Buffering fan, why on earth not? Best podcast ever, best community ever, and now best book authors ever. I am totally biased, but I thought the book was wonderful. It brought all the heart and storytelling about life that Kristin and Jenny excel at.

Historia
Women make over 80% of healthcare decisions in the U.S., yet only 4% of all medical research and development is focused on women's health issues. From periods and childbirth to menopause, female pain has been normalized, as society shrugs and says "Welcome to being a woman," instead of coming up with better solutions. But it doesn't have to be this way. In The Vagina Business, award-winning journalist Marina Gerner, Ph.D. takes an eye-opening look at the innovators challenging the status quo to deliver the healthcare solutions women need.

Incredibly informative and infuriating- well worth the read!
Revisado: 01-12-25
This book is jam packed full of information that you are almost guaranteed to learn something from. It will both inspire and enrage you, possibly in equal measure. Delight in the stories of the amazing women creating and innovating, and be frustrated and disappointed in the reasons their innovations are often dismissed or ignored because they only help women. We have a very high tolerance for women’s suffering, and have been shamed for trying to discuss issues for so long that many of us have just “learned to live with it.” This book revels in showing us that no, we do not have to live with it, and there are tons of folks out there making it their mission to help.

Historia
At first glance, Josh Hanagarne seems an improbable librarian. He stands 6'7", competes in strongman contests, and was diagnosed in high school with Tourette's syndrome. But books are his first love - Josh's earliest memories involve fantastic adventures between the pages of Gulliver’s Travels and a passionate infatuation with Fern from Charlotte’s Web. Everything in Josh’s life - from his Mormon upbringing, to finally finding love, to learning to control his tics through lifting - circles back to a close connection with books.

Very engaging, enjoyable read

I enjoyed this much more than I anticipated- I downloaded on a whim because I liked the title, but thought it was an interesting and pleasant listen. The author’s description of Tourette syndrome and his challenges with his faith felt sincere and informative.

With ribald humor, wit, and incredible insight, Alan seamlessly moves back and forth in time, integrating stories from his childhood in Scotland and his experiences today as the celebrated actor of film, television, and stage. At times suspenseful, at times deeply moving, but always incredibly brave and honest, Not My Father's Son is a powerful story of embracing the best aspects of the past and triumphantly pushing the darkness aside.

Alan cumming’s story is heartbreaking and uplifting at the same time. Knowing how terrorized he was as a child makes the man he’s become even more admirable.

Loved this book!
Revisado: 08-05-21
This was a truly enchanting story, and made even better by the narration. I didn’t want to stop listening, and was a little sad when it ended. A beautiful glimpse at the struggles that even the closest families maneuver through. Highly recommended!

Historia
As a child in small-town Oklahoma, Elizabeth Warren yearned to go to college and then become an elementary school teacher - an ambitious goal, given her family’s modest means. Early marriage and motherhood seemed to put even that dream out of reach, but 15 years later she was a distinguished law professor with a deep understanding of why people go bankrupt. Then came the phone call that changed her life: could she come to Washington, DC, to help advise Congress on rewriting the bankruptcy laws?

This book is so important
Revisado: 02-12-17
My heart broke over and over listening to this book. Listening to how common sense solutions that would help millions of people are pushed aside for political gain and to protect the enormous profits of big banks. Listen to Ms. Warren describe proudly that the Consumer Financial Protection Agency is the law of the land, only to realize that republicans are currently actively trying to dismantle it to again benefit the big banks.
People need to read and listen to this book. They need to understand who and what are actually trying to help them, and to understand what they need to fight for.
Thank you, Ms. Warren, for fighting for us.

Historia
You've eaten too much candy at Christmas...but have you ever eaten the face off a six-foot stuffed Santa? You've seen gingerbread houses...but have you ever made your own gingerbread tenement? You've woken up with a hangover...but have you ever woken up next to Kris Kringle himself? Augusten Burroughs has, and in this caustically funny, nostalgic, poignant, and moving collection he recounts Christmases past and present - as only he could.

Fan of his writing, not his narration
Revisado: 12-14-09
I am a fan of Mr. Burroughs and have read most of his books. I could not get through the first chapter of this audiobook due to his narration. It is painfully hard to listen to. I will try again on a more patient day, perhaps, but would suggest trying out the sample before purchasing to see if you can stand it. I am going to have to read this book in print form.
