Historia
Lady Anne Deveril doesn’t spook easily. A woman of lofty social standing known for her glacial beauty and starchy opinions, she’s the unofficial leader of her small group of equestriennes. Since her mother’s devastating plunge into mourning six years ago, Anne voluntarily renounced any fanciful notions of love and marriage. And yet, when fate puts Anne back into the entirely too enticing path of Mr. Felix Hartford, she’s tempted to run…right into his arms.

Silly and uninteresting
Revisado: 12-14-24
I honestly hate to leave a bag review because I love Mimi Matthews, but this book totally missed the mark for me. I've tried to listen to it on four separate occasions over the past couple of years and each time it's been so utterly excruciating I gave up. I can't believe Mimi wrote this. It's boring, none of the characters are likeable or relatable, the H and h are both silly and immature, and the narrators take on an appropriately silly tone. I'm now about ten chapters in and nothing is happening. Seems there may be potential for some action, but I hate the main characters so much that I don't care what happens to them. I'm really surprised because I've listened to every single book she's written, including the others in this series, and I've always enjoyed them. Mimi is one of my top three favorite authors, so I'm extremely disappointed. Not even a little bit entertaining. Maybe if Alex Wyndum had narrated it the overall tone may have been more to my liking, but I'm not even sure I could have lasted with him through this one. The narrators are great with the voices but it's just rubbing me the wrong way. Going to get a refund.

couldn't deal with the narrator
Revisado: 11-20-24
The narrator sounds the same for all male voices and she reads too slowly and too forcefully making the emotion all wrong for the scenes. I think it's because of the effort she has to put into changing her voice, but nonetheless it was very distracting to the point that I gave up on this book on chapter 5, and I'm making a note never to get another book where she's the narrator. Glad I didn't pay money for this one.

Historia
Stitch by perfect stitch, Andrew Garvie makes exquisite dolls in the finest antique style. Like him, they are diminutive, but graceful, unique, and with surprising depths. Perhaps that's why he answers the enigmatic personal ad in his collector's magazine. Letter by letter, Bramber Winters reveals more of her strange, sheltered life in an institution on Bodmin Moor, and the terrible events that put her there as a child. Andrew knows what it is to be trapped; and as they knit closer together, he weaves a curious plan to rescue her.

CONFUSING AND DISTURBING
Revisado: 10-07-24
I tried to stick with it but I just couldn't make it, gave up halfway through. there are stories within stories and the book is told from three or four different viewpoints. overall boring confusing and there are some very disturbing scenes. Don't waste your time, even though it's free. it was not at all enjoyable. I'm glad I didn't pay money for it or use a credit, but that's several hours of my life I can never get back and scenes in my head that I can never unsee. Alex Wyndham is fabulous as always but the storyline is trash.

Revisado: 03-03-24
This was perfection. Not your usual one and done romance plot, but instead a true saga that kept my interest throughout. Excellent writing and character development, and as always, Alex Wyndham is everything as a narrator. Very happy I've found a new writer worth following!

DON'T BOTHER
Revisado: 02-14-24
This is a stupid book. The heroin is stupid and silly, extremely frustrating and the plot is tedious. I've suffered through almost half of it, but I just can't take anymore. Not even good to fall asleep to. Eden though it was free, I'm mad I can't get back those hours of my life.

My Favorite Nora Roberts book! Perfection!
Revisado: 01-23-24
I don't care for her earlier attempts at romance, nor do I like her mystical writing, but I very much enjoy her romance with suspense genre, and this is my all time favorite! It's just a real feel good novel, with romance, mystery, strong family and community relationships. So very entertaining, with excellent character development. The narrator is one of my favorites as well. Excellent rhythm and differentiation of voices for so many characters! Very well done. Even knowing what was going to happen because I've listened to it before, I still enjoyed every word and didn't want it to end. The characters were all so relatable, it was like going home for me. Then top it off with plenty of action throughout the book. I can't recommend this one enough!

Zero plot, unlikable characters and unbelievable plot. this was a ridiculous waste of time and money. it's very hard to believe that this was actually written by Nora Roberts. her earlier work is so very different from her later work. Don't waste your time or money on this drivel.

Perfect balance of ACTION, CONFLICT, & Romance
Revisado: 12-26-23
I thoroughly enjoyed this book, as I have every other Stella Riley book. Although much longer than most books, it never seems too long. The story never drags. There's lots of action, the perfect amount of conflict, and the perfect amount of romance. This book is simply perfection, and it's an added bonus that I actually learned things that I did not know about history without being bored due to the way the author expertly weaves all the historical facts into thw story details. This is the epitome of romantic historical fiction as it should be done. As always, Alex Wyndham is simply divine and the story could not possibly be performed any better!

Her own days are filled with the often mundane work of running the book and print shop she owns with her father. The shop offers her the freedom and income to employ and protect the poverty-stricken Londoners she’s come to care about, and it gives her father something to do other than long for their hometown of St. Petersburg. She is grateful for the stability in their lives, but she often feels lonely.

Main story was ok but hated the dead penny stories
Revisado: 04-27-23
I've listened to all the other books in this series and enjoyed them more than this one. The main story was decent, but the two other random stories interspersed throughout the book were distracting and uninteresting. I hated the constant interruptions. Even if they had been good, which they were not, who wants to listen to three different books at the same time? Makes no sense to me at all. It might have made more sense if there had been some connection to them and the writing of them to the characters in the main story, like references to them actually working on them during the time of the main story, but there was none. Was honestly glad when this was over. I will not be reading anymore of this series. Great narrator.
