Not up to Picault's standard
Revisado: 02-18-15
Not one of Picault's best. The story was reasonably engaging, but large parts were devoted to droning on about elephants and their behavior. Would like to have had more detail and action about the main characters. Weird ending.

A virtuoso performance!
Revisado: 11-12-08
The narrator, Roslyn Landow, does an amazing job with the voices of the numerous characters--men and women, all ages, all walks of life, with various regional British accents. The characters lives are intertwined in surprising and exciting ways in this novel of financial and romantic adventure. The novel's long, but I didn't want it to end!

One of Shreve's Best!
Revisado: 11-13-05
The characters really come alive in this wonderful novel. The historical scenes of the Halifax disaster--a novel within a novel--are particularly vivid.
