Maybe Pendergast should’ve stayed in present time
Revisado: 05-14-23
I like the character development of Constance. Perhaps it is time to let her sink or swim, rather than help sink her, albeit unintentionally. Apology not accepted for cliffhanger.

Can we have another narrator? He cannot portray a single known character accurately. The performance was poor.

Historia
Demons. Monsters. Witches. James Crowley’s sacred duty as a Black Badge is to hunt them down and send them packing, banish them from the mortal realm for good. He didn’t choose this life. No. He didn’t choose life at all. Shot dead in a gunfight many years ago, now he’s stuck in purgatory, serving the whims of the White Throne to avoid falling to Hell. Not quite undead, though not alive either, the best he can hope for is to work off his penance and fade away.

A good story with the perfect narrator

This is not my usual genre, but I loved Dead Acre and now this book. The protagonist is well written, with a good storyline. The narration is exceptional.

One of the best in the series
Revisado: 02-12-23
This book can be read as a stand alone or as part of the series. It has interesting characters, a great plot, and a more streamlined style than seen in some later books. It is engrossing and unpredictable, yet believable. This is probably my favorite Pendergast book.

Historia
In the latest installment of The Vampire Chronicles, Anne Rice summons up dazzling worlds to bring us the story of Armand—eternally young, with the face of a Botticelli angel. We go with Armand across the centuries to the Kiev Rus of his boyhood - a ruined city under Mongol dominion—and to ancient Constantinople, where Tartar raiders sell him into slavery. And in a magnificent palazzo in the Venice of the Renaissance we see him emotionally and intellectually in thrall to the great vampire Marius.

Does not know the characters or how to write
Revisado: 05-23-21
Ghastly. Holmes, Watson and even Mrs.Hudson were off. The dialogue was poor and the sexual remarks off-putting. This was not a re-invention but rather a clumsy disappointment. I would have liked to give it zero stars.

The trait of insecurity is rampant and over-explained; selfish might be a better word. I quite disliked every character in the flimsy plot.
