Historia
The Brothers York is the story of three remarkable brothers, two of whom were crowned kings of England and the other an heir presumptive, whose antagonism was fueled by the mistrust and vendettas of the age that brought their family to power. The house of York should have been the dynasty that the Tudors became. Its tragedy was that it devoured itself.

The Wars of the Roses Made Clear
Revisado: 04-27-21
This is the best account of the numerous I have read in explaining the very complex history of the Wars of the Roses and the equally complex characters and their relationships.

Historia
Little more than 10 years after the first powered flight, aircraft were pressed into service in World War I. Nearly forgotten in the war's massive overall death toll, some 50,000 aircrew would die in the combatant nations' fledgling air forces. The romance of aviation had a remarkable grip on the public imagination, propaganda focusing on gallant air "aces" who become national heroes. The reality was horribly different. Marked for Death debunks popular myth to explore the brutal truths of wartime aviation.

This is the real air war
Revisado: 10-16-20
Excellent account of the war in the air from the earliest days in 1914 to the bitter end. Detailed, but never dull. I learned so much from this audio book...and I already thought I knew something. Highly recommended.

Filled with unforgettable stories of emperors, generals, and religious patriarchs, as well as fascinating glimpses into the life of the ordinary citizen, Lost to the West reveals how much we owe to the Byzantine Empire that was the equal of any in its achievements, appetites, and enduring legacy. For more than a millennium, Byzantium reigned as the glittering seat of Christian civilization.

A quick overview of a thousand years
Revisado: 06-13-20
Mr Brownworth came to my attention when he appeared as a guest narrator in the Turkish made docudrama "Rise of Empires: Ottoman". I found his comments and insight helpful in understanding the fall of Constantinople. I therefore sought out his book "Lost to the West" and was pleased to find it here on Audible.
The book is a good overview of a very long period in time. However, as you might guess with only 10 1/2 hrs of narrated time, this is only an overview. That was acceptable to me, since that is what I was looking for. I have read Roger Crowley's "1453: The Holy War for Constantinople and The Clash of Islam and The West" and I am still enjoying the popular podcast, "the History of Byzantium", both of which take a much deeper look at the subject. Lars Brownsworth's book helped to place everything in context and for this reason it was a good addition to my Audible library.

Historia
Richard J. Evans's gripping narrative ranges across a century of social and national conflicts, from the revolutions of 1830 and 1848 to the unification of both Germany and Italy, from the Russo-Turkish wars to the Balkan upheavals that brought this era of relative peace and growing prosperity to an end. The first single-volume history of the century, this comprehensive and sweeping account gives the listener a magnificently human picture of Europe in the age when it dominated the rest of the globe.

Facts and Anecdotes
Revisado: 04-11-17
Is there anything you would change about this book?
This is full of facts. However the narrative is dry and jerky as the author goes from fact to fact without enough context or interpretation
What did you like best about this story?
The sweep of history it embraces. It filled in many gaps in my knowledge
What do you think the narrator could have done better?
The endless dates of personages needed to be edited out. They work in a book, not in an audio book. The reader's German needs some work. It is not Bismaaach!
If this book were a movie would you go see it?
No
Any additional comments?
I struggled to finish this book because I felt I was learning something. However it was not entertaining in any way. Comprehensive but dry.

Historia
FNH Audio presents an unabridged reading of this WWI naval history by an author who actually took part in the battle(s) described. This plain, unvarnished account, so far as is known, is the first attempt that has been made to link with the description of the Battle of the Falkland Islands, fought on December 8th 1914, to the events leading up to that engagement. Each phase presented has been read and approved by officers who participated.

Very Poor Pronunciation and Narration Throughout

What disappointed you about The Battle of the Falkland Islands?
The reader was very, very weak. He had no ability to pronounce anything "foreign".
Has The Battle of the Falkland Islands turned you off from other books in this genre?
No. I have listened to many good recordings.
What didn’t you like about Felbrigg Napoleon Herriot’s performance?
Nothing...nuffin'. Is he kidding?
What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?
A slow groan
