Outstanding history
Revisado: 03-19-20
With as much historical accuracy as possible, the author tells the tale of the hunt for a man eating tiger at the turn of the 20th Century. Much worthwhile detail is given about the hunter's life and legacy as a conservationist, along with the effects of environmental degradation on the relationship between tigers and humans. The story is exceptionally well told. An excellent audiobook, even, and maybe especially for those who would normally avoid such a subject.

Historia
Explorer and inventor, soldier and poet, archaeologist and diplomat, Richard Francis Burton (1821-1890) was the most versatile and remarkable man of his age. But he was foremost an adventurer: “an adventurer in the intellectual and the spiritual as well as the physical world.” Byron Farwell brilliantly recreates the sheer excitement of Burton’s achievements and astonishing range of interests in this fascinating biography.

An outstanding performance of an outstanding life
Revisado: 09-19-19
Sir Richard F. Burton - explorer, poet, master of 29 languages, iconoclast, swordsman, eroticist, translator of both the Arabian nights and the Kama Sutra, scholar and so much more is a daunting target for any biographer. This book, well read and well written will give you some familiarity - warts and all - with one of the most fascinating people of all time, and the singular people around him, including his magnificent, devoted and talented wife Isabel. Niether his toweing virtues; his courage, intellectual curiosity, and his loyalty; nor his vices: his bigotry, stubbornness and occassional cruelty are hidden from you. This is an audiobook to treasure.

Historia
This ninth volume of The Flashman Papers, faithfully edited and transcribed by Fraser, finds that Sir Harry Flashman is back in India, where his saga began. This time, our hero is sent by Her Majesty's Secret Service to spy on the corrupt court of Lahore, on India's Northwest Frontier. Flashy's most challenging exploit yet is as politically shrewd and thoroughly lewd as ever.

Hilarious "Historical" Hijinks.
Revisado: 06-23-18
Capt. Flashman is the worst person you'll ever meet. He's dishonorable, a liar, a womanizer, a thief, a bigot, a coward and the luckiest man that ever lived. You'll come to love him, as he knows you will. Watch your wallet and your woman as historical fiction's greatest, most rakish rouge keeps you laughing, and perhaps grimacing a bit with the recognition of human folly and the distance between reality and the record left behind.

Historia
This is Oh, the Places You'll Never Go - the ultimate hilarious, cynical, but absolutely realistic view of a college graduate's future. And what he or she can or can't do about it. "This commencement address will never be given, because graduation speakers are supposed to offer encouragement and inspiration. That's not what you need. You need a warning." So begins Carl Hiaasen's attempt to prepare young men and women for their future. And who better to warn them about their precarious paths forward than Carl Hiaasen?

...an entire audible credit.
It is possible for a 15 minute speech to be worth an entire audible credit. But this isn't one of those speeches. It's one of a genre of commencement speeches (surely, everybody's favorite venue...) called "Straight, borderline cynical talk." If you are no longer a starry-eyed, freshly-minted grad, you have heard all this already, may times.

Dunsany is great. This reader/performance is...

...unfortunate. The narrator has a heavy accent that makes prolonged listening tiring. Along with that, the decision to add a heavy, loud echo every time one of the gods is named (which is almost every sentence, due to the mythic style of Dunsany's work) gets annoying quickly.
Again, I like Dunsany a lot, that's why I bought this audiobook. He's an acquired taste, though, and this performance won't help anyone acquire it.
