Historia
Scientific research has found that your ability to resist the damaging effects of stress - your hardiness - can reduce stress-related illness and strengthen your ability to thrive under pressure. Hardiness, written by respected clinical and research psychologists, will help develop your psychological hardiness which, in turn, enables you to enjoy more of life's rewards. Mastering the 3 C's of hardiness - commitment, control, and challenge - is essential to increasing hardiness and responding effectively to stressful situations.

3Cs for several hours
Revisado: 12-08-23
The book proposes Hardiness as a combination of 3Cs, commitment, control, and challenge to succeed in life. These can be summed as finding meaning in what we do, exercising self-control and striving for accomplishments. Some more characteristics and descriptions of these 3Cs are covered. So far good. Beyond that most of the book is filled with anecdotal evidence and cherry picking to support the hardiness narrative. Some of the success stories are so far fetched that they can be attributed to numerous other factors or to resilience. Then it gets into each profession, Music, athletics, lawyers, and so on to prove the privacy of three Cs in each field. This part tends to be very repetitive, and soon you lose interest. This book could simply be condensed into a couple of pages of summary of how commitment, control, and challenge are good traits to develop.

Great lecture / seminar
Revisado: 11-19-23
This appears to be a recording of lectures/seminars by the author, so they are audio first. I liked the style and substance of the material. Most of the talk is founded on the principle of Budha's teachings. I intend to look in-depth at Budha's teaching based on the book.

Historia
How do we make and keep friends in an era of distraction, burnout, and chaos, especially in a society that often prizes romantic love at the expense of other relationships? In Platonic, Dr. Marisa G. Franco unpacks the latest, often counterintuitive findings about the bonds between us—for example, why your friends aren’t texting you back (it’s not because they hate you!), and the myth of “friendships happening organically” (making friends, like cultivating any relationship, requires effort!).

Exceptional, practical and forward looking
Revisado: 11-19-23
One of the best books I heard on the subject. The author covers the topic in-depth while being very precise where needed and offering context and examples. There is practical advice based on universal values. I would probably listen to the title one more time, as I may not have captured some of the subtleties the first time.

Historia
Somehow, deeply conservative assumptions about how children behave and how parents raise them have become the conventional wisdom in our society. It's widely assumed that parents are both permissive and overprotective, unable to set limits and afraid to let their kids fail. We're told that young people receive trophies, praise, and A's too easily, and suffer from inflated self-esteem and insufficient self-discipline. However, complaints about pushover parents and entitled kids are actually decades old and driven, it turns out, by ideology more than evidence.

A refreshing message
Revisado: 11-19-23
I liked the premise of the book. I have noticed that any mindful parenting is conflated and branded dismissively as 'helicopter parenting'. The author painstakingly refutes these shallow generalizations, with plenty of supporting evidence. However, along the way, he makes strawman arguments against several evidence-based theories on deferred gratification and grit, primarily originating from the works of Martin Seligman. He oversimplifies or makes selective references to Seligman's work without much evidence. Ignoring these parts, I like his arguments against forced competition and artificial scarcity.

Too shallow
Revisado: 12-02-22
Most of the book is based on one tactic, asking “ how am I supposed to do that?” in any negotiation. There is no follow up for that if that falls flat. The author uses most of the examples from hostage negotiations, which don’t quiet fit in normal situations. Some of the normal life examples are very shallow and appear far from reality. Surprised that so many readers find this useful.

Very little original content
Revisado: 11-16-22
Most of the content is very superficial and trivial like start in small increments, use reminders and accountability partners. The author uses most of them based on anecdotal evidence without much data to backup. There is some useful material towards the end on motivation, but the entire book can be condensed into a two page article.

Waste of time and money
Revisado: 05-30-22
As some of the genuine reviewers have stated this is very basic and the content is insufferable. Narration is not particularly gripping either.
Most other 5 star reviews are suspicious and happen to be on one day. Amazon should apply the topic of this book (Machine Learning) to weed out these fake reviews.
I managed to listen to 45 minutes before rereading the reviews and figuring out the scam.

A very engaging and thoughtful audio book

The narrator’s voice is so natural and matches the content that I believed it was the author. Overall a very engaging book that opens the life of a counselor.
