A Great Book - Made Better on Audible

The Pumpkin Plan is a great book full of prescriptive advice for any business. The Audible version is even better than the original because Mike Michalowicz reads it himself and has added many asides that are not in the printed book.

It’s great stuff!

Where’s the PDF? Where are the illustrations? Why are we required to buy the hard copy or Kindle edition for another $10 to see the forms necessary to use the technique?

Thought it was going to be a thriller, but it was a romance novel. Enough already with his throbbing manhood.

It's Not Luck is a wonderful book that provides an approachable introduction to the Theory of Constraints and the thinking processes. It is one of my favorite books.

When I first read it twenty years ago, I thought: "Here we go. Another author found one solution and thinks it solves all problems." But, I was wrong. Goldratt -- who I had the honor to meet later - did have something new that can help almost anyone analyze almost any problem. I can't recommend this book (in print form) highly enough.

So, I've been waiting for 20 years for the audiobook. Unfortunately, the narration is not up tot the standards I had hoped for.

The main problem is that pretty much all the characters other than Rogo sound like they are whining all the time, especially the women and children. Many characters sound alike, including the two board members and the plant managers. Even when one character is identified as having a British accent in the text, he has no accent in the narration. UGH!

Finally -- and I know this may be petty -- he pronounces Hilton Smyth's name wrong. I guess I was spoiled by the wonderful narration (dramatization, really) in The Goal.

To give the narrator a little credit, somehow he does describe the diagrams in the book such that you can visualize them. Not an easy feat.

OK. I still highly recommend this book based on it's content. Narration could be improved. You may want a non-audio edition nearby to review the diagrams, but it's really not necessary.

Not schmaltzy. A little slow in the middle, but it picks right back up. Not as predictable as expected. Very enjoyable. Good performance although the cockney accent gets a little tiresome.

Mr. Kaufman is exceptionally well versed in virtually all business topics. I have an MBA and highly recommend this book as an excellent resource for business owners and any others wanting to learn or get a refresher with regard to managing business . This is one of those books that I will listen to many times over.

I'm also a Jonah, so I am especially impressed that Mr. Kaufman covers (or, at least mentions) Goldratt's Theory of Constraints. Like I said, he is exceptionally well versed. . .

BTW, Mr. Kaufman's narration works. Period.

The One Minute Manager Does Sales

Revisado: 02-11-13

In Mike Goss's "Breaking Through Walls", you will find a parable in the spirit of "The One Minute Manager" with a generous dose of kumbaya.

If you're a supportive manager wanting (or in need of) moral reinforcement, this book will be just what the doctor ordered. For you, I give it five stars. Otherwise, this book won't change anyone's mind. For them, it's only two or three stars.

Aimed squarely at the sales function (and perhaps the CEO's office), this story is a bit over the top with some plot elements can only make you smile. Of course, that level of enthusiasm may be perfect for the intended audience. (You weren't expecting a twist ending were you?)

Regarding Mr. Goss's narration, I say: "UGH!" However, self-narration was probably the only feasible way to create an audio book, so I can't fault him for it. Nor, can I deduct anything from my overall score for his narration. Who knows? Some may even like it.

In the end, I'm glad I read it. I applaud Mr. Goss's effort and hope it's a success for him and brings success to everyone who reads it.

Overall - Four Gold Stars

One (or three) too many potential villains make Easy Prey a difficult read. I love the series and am reading all the books in order. Unfortunately, this one is not up to the level of the rest.

Read/listen for completeness. Otherwise, skip it. You won't miss it.
