Historia
Zachary Ezra Rawlins is a graduate student in Vermont when he discovers a strange book hidden in the library stacks. As he turns the pages, entranced by tales of lovelorn prisoners, key collectors, and nameless acolytes, he reads something strange: a story from his own childhood. Bewildered by this inexplicable book and desperate to make sense of how his own life came to be recorded, Zachary uncovers a series of clues that lead him to a masquerade party in New York, to a secret club, and through a doorway to a subterranean library, hidden far below the surface of the earth.

This book is convoluted, confusing, mysterious and phenomenally beautiful. I couldn’t stop listening/reading (I have the hard copy too so switched between the 2). Just an amazing magical life altering book

Historia
Gretchen Rubin had an epiphany one rainy afternoon in the unlikeliest of places: a city bus. "The days are long, but the years are short," she realized. "Time is passing, and I'm not focusing enough on the things that really matter." In that moment, she decided to dedicate a year to her happiness project.

A life enhancing read
Revisado: 07-06-24
I stumbled upon this book whilst searching for ways to make my own life happier. Man am I glad I had Audible credits. It’s really a lovely, practical, helpful read if more happiness is something you’re hoping to implement in your life. I love how it’s not just theoretical but pragmatic, with step by step ideas on enhancing your happiness. I went out and bought the hard copy so I could re-read and make notes.

Historia
Alaska, 1974. Untamed. Unpredictable. A story of a family in crisis struggling to survive at the edge of the world, it is also a story of young and enduring love. Cora Allbright and her husband, Ernt, a recently returned Vietnam veteran scarred by the war, uproot their 13-year-old daughter, Leni, to start a new life in Alaska. Utterly unprepared for the weather and the isolation, but welcomed by the close-knit community, they fight to build a home in this harsh, beautiful wilderness.

Phenomenal story, outstanding narration
Revisado: 07-06-24
Absolutely gripping and tense and beautiful. Sometimes a bit too much drama and the constant feeling of impending doom gets a bit much. However, I couldn’t stop myself from falling in love with the characters and the way it was narrated. And, of course, Alaska.

Historia
One of the very best scientific predictors for how any child turns out - in terms of happiness, academic success, leadership skills, and meaningful relationships - is whether at least one adult in their life has consistently shown up for them. In an age of scheduling demands and digital distractions, showing up for your child might sound like a tall order. But as best-selling authors Daniel Siegel and Tina Payne Bryson reassuringly explain, it doesn’t take a lot of time, energy, or money. Instead, showing up means offering a quality of presence.

Interesting but often repetitive
Revisado: 07-21-23
Like most self help books, could be very repetitive. But was excellent at reinforcing respectful and gentle parenting with good examples. The chapter on attachment styles and the studies behind them was fascinating. Performance was a bit monotonous and I struggled to focus sometimes which is unusual for me.

Historia
David Mitchell, who you may know for his inappropriate anger on every TV panel show except Never Mind the Buzzcocks, his look of permanent discomfort on C4 sex comedy Peep Show, his online commenter-baiting in The Observer or just for wearing a stick-on moustache in That Mitchell and Webb Look, has written a book about his life.

Historia
The hilarious, heartbreaking novel by the author of the international best seller A Man Called Ove. Granny has been telling fairy tales for as long as Elsa can remember. In the beginning they were only to make Elsa go to sleep, to get her to practise Granny's secret language, and a little because Granny is just about as nutty as a granny should be. But lately the stories have another dimension as well. Something Elsa can't quite put her finger on....

Struggled to finish but was worth it in the end
Revisado: 11-27-19
Love Backman, and the narrator was excellent. The first half of the book is hard to get into, I think the fantasy aspect didn't translate well into audio book, but the second half picked up and i laughed and cried and was grateful I pushed through
