Very honest and clear
Revisado: 05-07-25
I believe in a lot of ( or all) of what Mel Robbin’s writes about. Almost everyone has gone through a lot. It’s how you react and respond to it all , plus perseverance, capabilities and some luck- which contributes to success. Hardship can create muscle. Without the cliff, or something to prove- most people dont know how to succeed. I have been talking about this book to others and I sent it as a gift to two of my friends plus my daughter. That’s how right on it all it is. As much as I loved this book, I returned “the five second rule”. After just one chapter I couldn’t listen to more.

Super book! So worthwhile.
Revisado: 03-08-23
Well written. Lots of food for thought. As a person who ( already) considers these issues a lot- I still learned a lot. Looked at some things in new and different ways. It is an excellent book for a community or workplace to read- together. An organization could spend tens of thousands to a facilitator to come in to spark conversations like what will come about - reading this book!

Historia
An affair: It can rob a couple of their relationship, their happiness, their very identity. And yet this extremely common human experience is so poorly understood. Adultery has existed since marriage was invented, and so, too, the prohibition against it - in fact it has a tenacity that marriage can only envy. Iconic couples' therapist and best-selling author of Mating in Captivity Esther Perel returns with a groundbreaking and provocative look at infidelity, arguing for a more nuanced and less judgmental conversation about our transgressions.

When you are ready this is the best.
Revisado: 02-18-23
When you are ready ( and not before then) listen to this. I tried to listen to it when I had too high a level of trauma and I only heard her understandings of infidelity throughout the ages. I was offended. However months later I realize that book is the needed book to get past things. In the beginning- I needed to read books which fed my anger. Not just friends was the best book during that initial time. This is the best book five months later. I now realize what she is saying is that ( sadly) infidelity in some form is almost inevitable in long term happy close marriages given who humans are. That understanding gives a foundation for rebuilding. Takes time to appreciate this book for what it is. For me- 5 months later I am appreciating all she has to say. Earlier I hated it.

Good people in good marriages are having affairs. The workplace and the Internet have become fertile breeding grounds for “friendships” that can slowly and insidiously turn into love affairs. Yet you can protect your relationship from emotional or sexual betrayal by recognizing the red flags that mark the stages of slipping into an improper, dangerous intimacy that can threaten your marriage.

Excellent leaving you choices
Revisado: 02-18-23
This is the best book when it comes to seeing and adjusting the unthinkable. You don't need to travel to all the similar books labeling people psychopaths and narcissists. They have no constructive purpose other than making you hate your spouse leaving you no options for yourself. When you are ready ( and not before then) read or listen to The State of Affairs by Esther Perel. I tried to listen to it when I had too high a level of trauma and I only heard her understandings of the cheater. I was offended. However months later I realize that book is the needed book to get past things. So in short- this book and State of Affairs are the two books for most people to read.

Historia
The Covert Passive Aggressive Narcissist: Finding Healing After Hidden Emotional and Psychological Abuse is the most comprehensive and helpful audiobook on the topic of covert narcissism. This type of narcissism is one of the most damaging forms because the abuse is so hidden and so insidious. You can be in a relationship that can last for decades and not realize you are being psychologically and emotionally controlled, manipulated, and abused.

Worthwhile!
Revisado: 10-23-22
When you are going through this type of victim trauma you replay and replay what things have happened. You can't relate to other subjects as well as this one. This book was highly relevant.
I got some good takeaways. Made me feel less alone and helped drum in some hard to grasp truths. The author is clearly generous healing and warm.
