Incredible book. I wish it was required reading for all healthcare professionals, psychiatrists, therapists, coaches, dietitians, teachers, PE teachers, parents, and anyone who works with children or adults in any capacity so basically everyone!

I discovered this book after an extremely difficult episode of PMDD. I was diagnosed 20 years ago in my early 30s and after reading this book I now know how fortunate I was to have had a midwife who recognized PMDD and gently suggested fluoxetine. Fast forward to present day and I’m perimenopausal and have had some PMDD symptoms return and most recently had a very severe episode. This book was validating and I felt very seen. I have already recommended it to other people and will continue to do so. I’m in the process of navigating perimenopause and PMDD and this book is a great resource. I also recommend reading it if you love someone who has PMDD or PME and want to understand it more.

Great explanation of alcohol in layman’s terms. You’ll never look at alcohol the same again. Life changing book.

I liked the research aspects of the book like comparing big alcohol and big tobacco. I’m sure her story was valuable for other women who can relate to her situation but as a person who does not struggle with alcohol use I found her tone (listened on audible) to be very harsh and angry and judgmental especially about other recovery options. She also seems to really dislike men. I understand hating the men that have hurt her and the patriarchy as a system of oppression but she seems to lump all men together which I don’t think is healthy. I like that she’s passionate about social justice and that something good has come from her struggle. That’s my 2 cents, mixed opinion.
