Just gets better and better
Revisado: 12-29-23
Jon Athan's Shared by Two was really good. I was on the edge of my seat the whole time. I was getting angry at some of the characters' actions. And I find that to be a quality. like when you're watching a movie and yelling at the characters, HES BEHIND YOU!!! The moment from Scream when Jamie Kennedy is doing exactly that. That's the kind of fun I had with this story.
The fact that this story was so meta, had me feeling proud of myself for drawing the connections between the reference material and the story. Lots of Easter eggs.
The ending was crazy. Loved it. Can't wait for more.

The world’s most notorious slashers hacked their way into our psyches and buried their hatchets in our hearts. Summer camps became sinister slaughterhouses, jigsaw puzzles twisted into bloody brainteasers, and all small Texas towns conjured images of cannibalistic chainsaw carnage.

Fun story, excellent execution
Revisado: 12-08-23
The story reads like a season of Sons of Anarchy television series. There's a lot of "Easter Eggs" and homage to the hit slashers from the 80s. The story is one of revenge and almost takes on the stranger in a strange land trope.
the dual narrators killed the performance.
This is one of the best books I've devoured all year.

What I like about Ed Lee is that I never know what I'm gonna get into. Except sex. We'll, obviously, have copious amounts in Lee's work, but his imaginings are always so unique and downright mean.
Television was bad ass. And I saw Leonard!!! Edward Lee is truly unique and quickly becoming my new favorite author. ...after Barker. ;)

To the public eye, Vincent Campbell is seen as a controversial figure known for his bizarre behavior, offensive outbursts, and contrarian stances—on top of a number of legal issues. Unbeknownst to most of the world, however, he holds secrets far worse than derogatory remarks in his personal life. And when it catches up to him, he tells all to a forensic psychiatrist, Lorraine Lynch, who has been assigned to find out why he has done what he has done.

Holy F*@#!
Revisado: 04-20-23
I've read....er, listened to, like 15 books by JA... In a row. He is extremely intelligent. he has some really fun slasher style 80s horror movie homage books, which are terrific to enjoy and absolutely horrifying and disgusting at the same time. But, this guy literally spends loads of time researching actual crazy stuff and writes books based around the most depraved criminals and unknown quantities that are truly devastatingly great.
this book is freaking amazing. it's the longest story I've enjoyed by JA and it was just so cool. I liked how it dealt with current politics and took it to the American psycho extreme.
I really enjoyed the narrator, he is the voice of Jonny Athan in my mind. When Henry Roger Williams (I hope that's correct) reads I just imagine it being how JA speaks irl. lol.
This has to be my favorite. it's a riot. will my friends enjoy it? probably not. they'd probably be offended that we poked fun at their orange leader but I thought it was done stylistically well enough that maybe not.
I actually, didn't want the book to end. it was an awesome experience because it was so traceable to the recent events that it felt familiar and bizarre at the same time.
Vincent Campbell is effin bonkers. but the way he was written, his motivations, and the narrator really brought him to life and made him a fun character to read.
Lorraine was awesome as well.
I don't normally, but I'll probably listen to this one again.

Suspenseful!
Revisado: 04-11-23
At this point I've read (or rather listened to) several books by Jon Athan. This one was extremely well paced and had me at the edge of my seat for the latter half of the story. Most of the books I've read by JA have been extremely graphic, but this one is considerably less. Still, his ability to create a suspenseful scene, with the actions of certain characters, was still really bad ass!
I will be sad when I run out of Athan books on here

too much meat beat
Revisado: 03-03-21
absolutely fucked up. good. disgusting. but way too many times the main character would beat his meat and the author would describe the porno he was watching. the first time I was like, damn, that dirty. the second time seemed like I had heard it already. 3rd ,4th, 5th(?) time was just like ok man get on with the story. the ending was brutal but a bit out of place. wish the story was longer. seemed too quick. but honestly, the most fucked up cult shit I ever read. wow.

Historia
On an entirely normal, beautiful fall day in Chester's Mill, Maine, the town is inexplicably and suddenly sealed off from the rest of the world by an invisible force field. Planes crash into it and fall from the sky in flaming wreckage, a gardener's hand is severed as "the dome" comes down on it, people running errands in the neighboring town are divided from their families, and cars explode on impact. No one can fathom what this barrier is, where it came from, and when - or if - it will go away.

Not as good a performance as...
Revisado: 08-14-19
having just finished The Stand by Stephen King I jumped right into this one. The narrator has a very monotonous voice that kinda drags and drags. had to speed it up to 1.4 just to be able to handle it. after about half way through it stopped bothering me as I was starting to be pulled deeper into the actual story. it's the only thing I didn't like about the performance. I didn't hate it at the end. at first it was like wtf. super weak sauce. but by the end it was ok and I became indifferent. still prefer Grover Gardner's performance and reading of The Stand.
