Infomercial
Revisado: 12-30-24
The book is an infomercial for his 10 day detox course. Some helpful information, but wouldn't have paid to hear patient anecdots about how wonderful his detox program is. I don't pay to hear infomercials on TV, why should we pay to hear it on Audible.

Historia
A mere 18 years of age when his uncle, Julius Caesar, is murdered, Octavius Caesar prematurely inherits rule of the Roman Republic. Surrounded by men who are jockeying for power—Cicero, Brutus, Cassius, and Mark Antony—young Octavius must work against the powerful Roman political machinations to claim his destiny as first Roman emperor. Sprung from meticulous research and the pen of a true poet, Augustus tells the story of one man’s dream to liberate a corrupt Rome.

lncredible biography
Revisado: 05-20-22
This biography is a compilation of contemporary epistles from Augustus, his friend, family and enemies over the span of his life. The reader is allowed, without the bias of the author, to stitch together his opinion of Augustus. The insights provided by these correspondences, often intimate, at times touching, gives the reader a complex view of a complex, private and exceptional historic figure. Well narrated.

Historia
In this “vital, necessary, and beautiful book” (Michael Eric Dyson), antiracist educator Robin DiAngelo deftly illuminates the phenomenon of white fragility and “allows us to understand racism as a practice not restricted to 'bad people'" (Claudia Rankine). Referring to the defensive moves white people make when challenged racially, white fragility is characterized by emotions such as anger, fear, and guilt and by behaviors including argumentation and silence. These behaviors, in turn, function to reinstate white racial equilibrium and prevent meaningful cross-racial dialogue.

Grating
Revisado: 04-24-21
Made a few good points that could have been summarize in 15 minutes. I felt I was reading a term paper by a collage freshman. Her self indulgent prose was grating and pedantic.

Historia
Here Durant tells the whole story of Greece from the days of Crete's vast Aegean empire to the final extirpation of the last remnants of Greek liberty, crushed under the heel of an implacably forward-marching Rome. The dry minutiae of battles and sieges, of tortuous statecraft of tyrant and king, get minor emphasis in what is preeminently a vivid recreation of Greek culture, brought to the listener through the medium of supple, vigorous prose.

A beautifully articulated ode.
Revisado: 05-27-19
A compelling, well crafted and narrated review of the seminal four hundred years that helped mold our civilization. Regretfully that civilization and this epic story came to an end. Highly recommend to anyone wanting to view a glimpse of our destiny by recalling the incredible achievements and failures of our past.

Historia
Our current economic path is coming to an end. The signposts are all around us: sluggish growth, rising inequality, stubbornly high pockets of unemployment, and jittery financial markets, to name a few. Soon we will reach a fork in the road: One path leads to renewed growth, prosperity, and financial stability, the other to recession and market disorder.

Unhappily not much new or insightful
Revisado: 04-04-19
Perhaps because it is dated, there was nothing insightful or new in the narrative. Would not recommend.

Historia
Empires of the Sea tells the story of the 50-year world war between Islam and Christianity for the Mediterranean: one of the fiercest and most influential contests in European history. It traces events from the appearance on the world stage of Suleiman the Magnificent through "the years of devastation" when it seemed possible that Islam might master the whole sea, to the final brief flourishing of a united Christendom in 1571.

Compelling Story, wonderful narration.
Revisado: 03-05-17
John Lee is by far my favorite narrator even if his skill in voices isn't needed in this book. It is a well crafted narrative of what to me was a little known struggle between Christian Europe and the Islamic Otterman empire for supremacy of the Mediterranean basin. The intrigue, religious zeal and brutality of the period comes to life within the pages of the book. l looked forward to the read.
