Plot twists and battles and snarky banter!
Revisado: 03-28-25
The Kate Daniels series is amazing!! This story continues the Kate’s ongoing challenge to survive her father and his machinations. More is revealed about some of my favorite characters. In between the attacks and battles, there is the ongoing relationships between Kate and Curran. Plus so much witty, snarky dialogue.
This book, like many of Ilona Andrews’ books, made me laugh out loud, cringe, gasp, and even cry. I can’t wait to listen to it again.
As amazing as the story is the narration takes it to an even higher level. The GraphicAudio productions are so well done. The multicast narration allows for conversations that are just not possible with a single narrator. The whole cast of narrators is so talented. Plus the added music and sound effects make the audiobook an immersive experience. Highly recommend!!

Engaging fantasy
Revisado: 03-26-25
This engaging fantasy is told from 6 different POVs. Six people from various backgrounds all are bound together to save the world … and make a lot of money. Each has a unique history and special skills and/or gifts that are useful to the team.
I dived into this book and did not come up for air until the end. Each character is interesting with lost loves, successes, and disappointments that each is fighting for or running from. The twists and action are non-stop. I’m excited to listen to the next book.
Each chapter is narrated by a different narrator. Some are old favorites and others were new to me. While I preferred some to others, all were good.

Intrigue and danger enter Brydie MacKay's life when Gage walks into her carefully controlled world. He brings news that her grandmother has died, and as her last living relative, Brydie has inherited her estate and must travel to Scotland to accept her legacy and all it entails. Brydie doesn't want the inheritance, not after the way she was treated, and when a series of actions unfold that illustrate her "legacy" is not just a physical entity but a turbulent birthright proclaiming she is the descendant of the Celtic winter goddess, Cailleach Bheur, she tries to run.

Interesting story with good world building
Revisado: 02-23-25
I purchased this audiobook without knowing much about it- this is not my usual MO. I like that the story is based off of a mythology that I am not familiar with. I like that this story is primarily set in New Zealand and Scotland, which are also not familiar to me.
I think that a good fantasy book good world building, interesting characters, and an engaging plot. This book has all of these. I was pulled in from the start and want to know more. This is the first book, but the author answered some big questions and introduced a few new ones. I appreciate that the book didn’t end on a cliffhanger. Yet I am still interested in knowing what happens to these characters.
Duel narration was really good.

But a secret is like a knot. Sooner or later, it is bound to come undone. When Saeris comes face-to-face with Death himself, she inadvertently reopens a gateway between realms and is transported to a land of ice and snow. The Fae have always been the stuff of myth, of legend, of nightmares… but it turns out they're real.

I felt like I missed some initial explanation most of the book
Revisado: 01-08-25
This book has been on my TBR for a while. I finally decided to read/ listen to it based on the narrators as well as several positive reviews from members of a book club. I liked it but it wasn’t my favorite.
Pros/Cons
decent world building-different realms, but not a lot of explanation about what made them different and much of the descriptions felt like an side note, like I had arrived to class late and missed the introduction of the basics
interesting characters-lots of characters, but minimal characters building except for the main characters
odd pacing-this was kind of a slow burn romance, but the relationship between the main characters seemed very surface level or developed off the page, hot scene then jump forward several weeks, then arguing/sex, fighting, jump forward again
I didn’t like that most of the reveals and explanations happened in the last few chapters. Since there wasn’t foreshadowing or hints for much of it, the reveals seemed forced to me. Also more loose ends and new questions, then explanations.
I don’t know if I’ll read the next book. I don’t feel invested in what happens to most of the characters, since I don’t feel like I know them.
Narration was great. I enjoy the duet style narration. Especially for a long, single POV book I appreciate having more than one voice to listen to.

Great story! More about Julie and the Kate Daniels world
Revisado: 12-15-24
I love everything Ilona Andrews writes! This story has everything I love about an IA book: fantastic world building, twisty plot, a touch of romance, and interesting characters with depth of thoughts, feelings, and motivations. I like trying to figure out who is doing what and why. Plus I have liked the characters in the Kate Daniels world and enjoyed hearing more of their stories.
I enjoyed the narration, mostly. The odd pronunciations of names familiar to the BDH and other fans was frustrating.

Ilona Andrews, the #1 New York Times bestselling author of the Kate Daniels series, invites you to a fresh start for Kate, Curran and Conlan, in a long novella and a short novel. The places and faces may be different, but they’ve brought some familiar friends and all the special brand of chaos they create!

The story and the narration by Michael Glenn are so good!!
Revisado: 12-14-24
I really enjoyed these stories. I liked hearing more about Kate and Curran and Conlan.
I loved the narration by Michael Glenn.
I was disappointed in the female narrator. I only give her a 3/5 stars. Her narration kept pulling me out of the story. Anyone how has listened to previous audiobooks by Ilona Andrews is aware that there were names pronounced incorrectly in the original recording of the earlier books. I have heard of other narrators sending questions to the author. But this narrator pronounced other words oddly/incorrectly. Also her tone and sentence breaks were odd at times.

Jace King is a smoking hot firefighter, a single dad and my new boss. He's also the most beautiful man I've ever laid eyes on. It's totally fine to secretly crush on the guy you Nanny for, right? Did I mention that he's also a decade older than me, works with my dad and he's a close family friend? If you looked up OFF LIMITS in the dictionary, you'd find an eight by ten photo of my sexy boss. But something happens every time we're in a room together. The attraction is almost overpowering.

The little girls make this book amazing!!
Revisado: 12-01-24
Such a wonderful story! This book is an age gap, single dad-nanny romance, but it is so much more than its tropes! I have re-read/re-listened to this book several times.
Jace is a single dad to two lovely girls: Peyton and Hadley. He hires Ashlan to be their nanny. He is a firefighter and house flipper, but his focus is his girls.
Ashlan recently graduated from college, but isn’t sure what she wants to do other than write. Working as a nanny allows her time to write and help out Jase. She has secretly had a crush on Jase for a while.
The romance between the two is sweet. What makes this book special are the two little girls. The girls are sweet, starved for attention, and fall in love with Ashlan almost immediately. Each is a fully developed character with personality and quirks. Kids humor and sweetness make this book amazing!!
The dual narration is great. I enjoy both narrators.

Amazing!!!
Revisado: 10-17-24
In an attempt to avoid spoilers, I’m going to be vague in my review. This book all the action! The individual story in this book was intriguing and twisty, plus the continuation of the ongoing storyline was so interesting. Relationships between the main characters with some of the side characters continue to develop. This book explained more about some characters and some took action and redeem themselves, in my eyes. Some characters’ actions were despicable and I thought they were worse than I had after reading in previous books.
I enjoyed everything about this book and this series. I have re-discovered these books thanks to the new GraphicAudio narrations. They truly bring the characters and the stories to life in a real way. Highly recommend!!
