Historia
The year is 2008 and Samantha Kofer's career at a huge Wall Street law firm is on the fast track - until the recession hits and she gets downsized, furloughed, escorted out of the building. Samantha, though, is one of the "lucky" associates. She's offered an opportunity to work at a legal aid clinic for one year without pay, after which there would be a slim chance that she'd get her old job back. In a matter of days Samantha moves from Manhattan to Brady, Virginia, population 2,200, in the heart of Appalachia, a part of the world she has only read about.

Flat Mountain!
Revisado: 12-12-14
Ive been a Grisham fan for 20 years but this story fell very flat!
After his latest home-run Sycamore Row i thought maybe the 90's Grisham was back but nothing could be further from the truth. Gray Mountain fell apart from the start and didnt engage like his previous books. Chugging along at such a slow clip also didnt help the story push through the boring dialogue.
I do however believe that Catherine Taber did a fine job with the narration.

Im convinced!
Revisado: 06-03-14
This book is one of the most unique books Ive heard in years. Where else have you heard of an adopted child on the seach for his bio-parents just to find out his bio-father was a notorious serial-killer? The fact that the zodiac killer case was unsolved makes this story even more fresh and appealing. Gary Stewart does an amazing job at laying out his arguments. im absolutley convinced his father was the zodiac.
The narration was distracting at times with it's halting cadence but that is to be expected with a first time narrator who also happens to be the author. I would say the narration was mediocre but dont let that stop you from getting this audibook now!

It may be taboo to say, but some groups in America do better than others. Mormons have recently risen to astonishing business success. Cubans in Miami climbed from poverty to prosperity in a generation. Nigerians earn doctorates at stunningly high rates. Indian and Chinese Americans have much higher incomes than other Americans; Jews may have the highest of all. Why do some groups rise? Drawing on groundbreaking original research and startling statistics, The Triple Package uncovers the secret to their success.

Triple Thumbs Up!!
Revisado: 02-07-14
This book is a must listen for anyone who wants insights into what makes some people and cultures successful. It is intended to be provacative and politically iccorrect which is why I appreciated and enjoyed it. Amy Chua and Jeb Rubenfiled backup most every idea with hard statistics which support each conclusion they present and they do it in an entertaining manner.
Some of the successful cultures presented werent suprising such as Jews and chinese-americans but i wasnt expecting to hear about the success of Cuban-Americans and Nigerians.
My only criticism would be in the narration. I feel the subject matter could have landed better with a bit more sharper stronger voice. The narration is a little soft in my opinion.

Thrilling story intertwined with history lesson
Revisado: 01-16-14
Robert Kurson has found and told an incredible story that anyone who likes non-fiction will enjoy.
He gives a great background into diving, German U-boats, WWII and more.
I love books that get me excited to research the subject which I found myself doing a lot during and following listening to this memorable book.

Historia
Millions of people have thrilled to best-selling authors Bill O'Reilly and historian Martin Dugard's Killing Kennedy and Killing Lincoln, works of nonfiction that have changed the way we view history. Now the anchor of The O'Reilly Factor details the events leading up to the murder of the most influential man in history: Jesus of Nazareth. Nearly 2,000 years after this beloved and controversial young revolutionary was brutally killed by Roman soldiers, more than 2.2 billion human beings attempt to follow his teachings and believe he is God.

Doesn't slow down!
Revisado: 12-07-13
Bill O'Reilly has a real talent for narration! Like a pace-car in a NASCAR race he sets a pace for the listener that doesn't waste time but pushes the listener through the book at an amazing rate.
The historical content was solid with insights into Roman and Jewish cultures that complimented the main story of the life of Jesus quite well.
While I enjoyed O'Reilly's other historical non-fiction books (Lincoln and Kennedy) more, Killing Jesus is very much worth tearing through in a couple days.

What the he!! do babies know?
Revisado: 11-19-13
Provocative and engaging, this book will make you think!
I really enjoyed this well-written and well presented book by Paul Bloom which takes the reader on a quick and sometimes cringe-worthy ride through the science behind moral decisions made in our infancy. Are we born evil or good? While that sub-title is slightly mis-leading it nevertheless portrays the idea behind the work.
I also liked the chapter on morality versus compassion and the pitfalls of over-compassion.

Historia
At the height of World War II, Oak Ridge, Tennessee, was home to 75,000 residents, consuming more electricity than New York City. But to most of the world, the town did not exist. Thousands of civilians - many of them young women from small towns across the South - were recruited to this secret city, enticed by solid wages and the promise of war-ending work. Kept very much in the dark, few would ever guess the true nature of the tasks they performed each day in the hulking factories in the middle of the Appalachian Mountains.

Important story of this secret city
Revisado: 11-14-13
there are many non-fiction books on Americans experience during WWII but none have affected me as much as The Girls of Atomic City. The author, Denise Kiernan, managed to take the readers though the exciting story of the highly classified race for the A-bomb while intertwining the lives of the women and men who worked at Oak Ridge. These men and women sacrificed much to help the war effort and im glad Kiernan has preserved their accounts for us to read.
This story stirred two conflicting emotions in me the reader. First, pride in what others before us have done and humility in the sacrifice they made in the face of fear and uncertainty.
Parents, add this book to your teenagers' reading list to supplement their American history studies.

Historia
Explore the power of the underdog in Malcolm Gladwell's dazzling examination of success, motivation, and the role of adversity in shaping our lives, from the best-selling author of The Bomber Mafia. Three thousand years ago on a battlefield in ancient Palestine, a shepherd boy felled a mighty warrior with nothing more than a stone and a sling, and ever since then the names of David and Goliath have stood for battles between underdogs and giants. David's victory was improbable and miraculous. He shouldn't have won. Or should he have?

Entertaining and refreshing!
Revisado: 10-25-13
Malcolm Gladwell does it again. like all of his previous books David and Goliath has been well researched using stories most of us haven't heard or considered before now. I enjoy the way Gladwell takes his reader on a roller-coaster ride of altering conclusions. After listening I purchased the hardcover as soon as I could as the author gives graphs, diagrams and photos to enhance the experience.
Trust me, you wont stop talking to friends and family about this book. Galdwell delivered in his narration as well.

Historia
Seth Hubbard is a wealthy man dying of lung cancer. He trusts no one. Before he hangs himself from a sycamore tree, Hubbard leaves a new, handwritten, will. It is an act that drags his adult children, his Black maid, and Jake into a conflict as riveting and dramatic as the murder trial that made Brigance one of Ford County's most notorious citizens, just three years earlier. The second will raises far more questions than it answers. Why would Hubbard leave nearly all of his fortune to his maid? Had chemotherapy and painkillers affected his ability to think clearly?

The Grisham we all loved from the 90's!
Revisado: 10-23-13
Ive always enjoyed the compelling storeytelling of John Grisham but have been unimpressed with his last few novels.
Sycamore Row is classic Grisham that delivers strong character development, descriptive subplots, twists and unforseen turns.
I was very pleased to see he returned his readers to Clanton, Mississippi a few years after the Carl Lee Haley trial. Ive always wanted a follow up to that novel and now we have one.
As always, Michael Beck gives a solid narration!

I wish I was taught these memorization techniques early on in my life. They can help everybody. This book will blow your mind if you allow it to. Take some time to try out some of these exercises as you listen to this book.
I very much appreciated that this author dove into the subject matter by testing out the techniques for himself and even compete in memorization competitions.
