Bowled me over
Revisado: 01-24-17
What made the experience of listening to The Sympathizer the most enjoyable?
The story was very compelling and the narrator did it real justice. I'd like to hear more from this author. His use of metaphor was the best I have ever heard.
What other book might you compare The Sympathizer to and why?
Pick something from Dostoevsky or other Russian classics, including Solzhenitsyn.
What about Francois Chau’s performance did you like?
Chau's reading was nuanced and understated, which made his reading very effective.
If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?
A real story about a complicated man....
Any additional comments?

Too much work to listen
Revisado: 05-07-15
Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?
No. This book tries to toe the line between law drama and romance. It doesn't work for me.
Has Losing Faith turned you off from other books in this genre?
No. I have listened to a different book by the same author and found it intriguing, making it a good listen.
What didn’t you like about Andy Caploe’s performance?
Mr. Caploe works too hard at the voices in the book. I listen to a book the same way that I read it, with the voices I create in my head. I don't need this from the narrator. This is the same reason I usually don't like two different readers for a male voice and a female voice.
Do you think Losing Faith needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?
I didn't finish it. I just couldn't listen any more.

Oh, please!
Revisado: 10-30-13
Would you try another book from Nele Neuhaus and Christine M. Grimm (translator) and/or Justine Eyre?
This was my second book by Nele Neuhaus, so I was ready to try this time. Not again.
What was most disappointing about Nele Neuhaus and Christine M. Grimm (translator) ’s story?
It's not really a mystery. There should be a category for Romantic Mysteries, so you have a better idea of what you're getting.
What didn’t you like about Justine Eyre’s performance?
She's a bit rushed, and her interpretation of men's voices sounds like caricature
If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from Swimming with Sharks?
Most of them.

At night, his Ma shuts him safely in the wardrobe, where he is meant to be asleep when Old Nick visits. Room is home to Jack, but to Ma, it is the prison where Old Nick has held her captive for seven years. Through determination, ingenuity, and fierce motherly love, Ma has created a life for Jack. Too many voices.
Revisado: 12-02-12
Would you try another book from Emma Donoghue and/or the narrators?
I doubt it. I think a good narrator can provide all the voices that any book needs.
What was most disappointing about Emma Donoghue’s story?
I had heard from others that the book was very compelling, but I couldn't get past the narration.
How did the narrator detract from the book?
This was like listening to a play. They were working too hard to bring the story to life.
If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from Room?
I would never have been so presumptuous.
Any additional comments?
This was a real disappointment.

Oh, puh-leeze
Revisado: 07-03-12
What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?
The narrator was excellent, worthy of a better book.
Has Spring Fever turned you off from other books in this genre?
I would like to keep an open mind, but I don't think I would pay to listen to another.
Have you listened to any of Kathleen McInerney’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
No, this was my first.
If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from Spring Fever?
Most of them. This book was the written depiction of every scene from a movie shown by the Hallmark Channel put between covers. The characters were stereotypes, without dimension or real energy
Any additional comments?
I can not begin to understand why this book was in the humor section. I have never waited so long for a laugh that never came.

Historia
Old ghosts of different kinds come back to haunt Felix, in the fourth gripping Felix Castor novel. Names and faces he thought he'd left behind in Liverpool resurface in London, bringing Castor far more trouble than he'd anticipated. Childhood memories, family traumas, sins old and new, and a council estate that was meant to be a modern utopia until it turned into something like hell...these are just some of the sticks life uses to beat Felix Castor with as things go from bad to worse for London's favourite freelance exorcist.

Bringing the dead to life, with regrets.
Revisado: 06-11-12
What did you love best about Thicker Than Water?
Mike Carey offers the best language of this genre. He has a strong vocabulary and clearly chooses his expressions with care, as well as offering a compelling story.
What did you like best about this story?
Felix Castor can be a jerk, but I like his loyaly to his friends and his willingness to take his licks when he has to. Carey has done a great job of moving on to Castor's present challenge and leaving the next one in place.
What does Damian Lynch bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
Damian Lynch would be hard to replace with either a book or a movie. His voice is the voice of Castor. I would be sad to hear it replaced.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
I laugh out loud during all of Carey's books, but also appreciate the quiet, intense moments that are offered.
Any additional comments?
Please keep up the good work.

Historia
When 14-year-old Mattie Sullivan asks Spenser to look into her mother’s murder, he’s not completely convinced by her claim that the police investigation four years ago was botched. Mattie is gruff, street-smart, and wise beyond her years, left to care for her younger siblings and an alcoholic grandmother in a dilapidated apartment in South Boston. But her need for closure and her determination to make things right hit Spenser where he lives - they’re the very characteristics he abides by.

Always meets my expectations
Revisado: 06-11-12
Would you listen to Robert B. Parker's Lullaby again? Why?
I have yet to listen to a book twice. This is a murder mystery, so it would have to be extremely compelling in terms of writing and story line to bring me back again.
What was one of the most memorable moments of Robert B. Parker's Lullaby?
The character of the young girl, Mattie, who hires Spenser, was fun to hear. It was easy to appreciate her spunk.
Which character – as performed by Joe Mantegna – was your favorite?
I won't offer a favorite. Joe Mantegna is a great performer and brings everyone alive.
If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?
Small client, big case--After 10 years, can even Spenser find the truth?
Any additional comments?
Always a great listen.
