Historia
Rosalind Thorne may not have a grand fortune of her own, but she possesses virtues almost as prized by the haut ton: discretion, and a web of connections that enable her to discover just about anything about anyone. Known as a "most useful woman," Rosalind helps society ladies in need--for a modest fee, of course--and her client roster is steadily increasing.

A very disappointing volume
Revisado: 02-18-25
I think my disappointment in this book would be less if it had a different narrator. The narrator’s accent was all wrong for the people and the setting. Her interpretation of Alice Littlefield was particularly appalling and Rosalind wasn’t much better. Alice, a bold and decisive independent woman, came off as just plain silly.
I have enjoyed the Useful Woman series very much but wonder how Rosalind can continue if the author pursues the Adam romance. Society will turn its back on her and her days as a Useful Woman will be over. Rosalind chose autonomy when she refused Devin but she is throwing away her freedom by becoming Mrs. Harkness.

He is a rogue, a killer, and a thief - and the first thing he steals is Judith's heart. Three thousand acres of untamed jungle, populated by native tribes and overrun with jaguars and pirates, await Philip in Louisiana.

Narrator performance was dreadful! Exaggerated southern accents especially. Provided unique details about early settlers of Louisiana plantations.

Historia
Life seems perfect in the quiet community of Valley Farm. Then a shocking discovery shatters the silence. The owners of a big country house have employed a house sitter, a young ecologist, to look after the place while they're away. But his dead body is found by the side of the lane - a lonely place to die. When DI Vera Stanhope arrives on the scene, she finds the body of a second man. What the two victims seem to have in common is a fascination with studying moths - and with catching these beautiful, intriguing creatures.

Vera still on top of her game
Revisado: 03-09-23
The narrator’s voice for Joe is cringe worthy! She manages the local accent for her other characters, including Vera and male characters. But Joe sounds absolutely inconsequential and daft.

Historia
Everyone from Wakarusa, Indiana, remembers the infamous case of January Jacobs, who was discovered in a ditch hours after her family awoke to find her gone. Margot Davies was six at the time, the same age as January—and they were next-door neighbors. In the twenty years since, Margot has grown up, moved away, and become a big-city journalist. But she’s always been haunted by the feeling that it could’ve been her. And the worst part is, January’s killer has never been brought to justice.

Great mystery, unique storyline. Gave it 4 stars overall because although it’s a mystery being unraveled, the consequence of the final scene involving a major character remains a mystery. I can’t bear a any story to end that way! Found it frustrating and disappointing

Good story, dreadful narrator
Revisado: 12-01-22
I enjoyed the stories about the families - the reasons they undertook the journey, depictions of dangers and how they overcame them. The narrator has a very pleasant voice, but her melodramatic style is excruciating!! It horribly distracts from the story.

Very Entertaining!
Revisado: 07-04-22
The plot, characters, pace were all very engaging and true to small town life. I strongly disagree with negative reviewers about narration, sound effects, or autism. Book doesn’t give details about Charlie’s exact diagnosis or why, by whom, when, what. Individual characteristics can be conflicting in any given person. The narrators gave good performances. Sound effects are minimal. One smooch scene no groans or grunts - not objectionable.

This narrator’s shortcomings does the author no favors
Revisado: 01-13-22
Listener absolutely must make a conscious effort to overlook this narrator’s poor attempt at accents and individualized character voices. Her voice is pleasant and narration quite good and she stick with that.
Did the producer/director even bother to listen to this? If so, shame on them!

Appealing characters set in WWI era almost ruined by abominable narration
Revisado: 01-12-22
I hate losing a connection with appealing characters so I love a book series. The Harper’s Girls highlight female friendships and new definitions of “family.” I had to make an effort to ignore the truly abominable narration in order to follow the characters stories. This narrator should stop trying accents and individual voices! She simply can’t do them. Her narration was otherwise more than acceptable.
