Historia
It’s 2006. After a string of rejections from men who tell her they could never, ever, ever see her “that way,” awkward third-grade teacher Micaela Blei signs up for a mysterious course called “The Divine Feminine,” and feels like she might have found the key to the perfect life. Turns out if you’re an A student, you can get an A in anything–including men. Pretty soon she’s learning to "conjure" her desires with vision boards, flirtations, and even a daring jumbotron viewing party for her, ahem ... "divine center."

Excellent storytelling!!
Revisado: 01-10-25
I always love when an author narrates their own books. Micaela did a killer job! I loved her story and being the same age as her it resonated with me. I laughed out loud more than once. Thank you for sharing your story.

Historia
A Room of One's Own, based on a lecture given at Girton College Cambridge, is one of the great feminist polemics. Woolf's blazing polemic on female creativity, the role of the writer, and the silent fate of Shakespeare's imaginary sister remains a powerful reminder of a woman's need for financial independence and intellectual freedom.

The narrator brings the point to life
Revisado: 03-28-24
This is a sharp, direct and hilariously sarcastic essay written about 100 years about women and fiction. She decrees that at that time (1929) in order for a woman to write fiction, she needed two things, a room of her own and money. It's one of the earliest books written about the discrepancies between women and men in the arts and is still so very relevant today.

Historia
Roger Stringer grew up in rural Mississippi, hunting and eating everything from deer to rabbits. When he had two sons, Zac and Justin, he gave them guns and took them to the woods as well. Then one day when the boys were home alone, he got a call from Zac that Justin had been shot. What follows is an intimate and gripping memoir about the shooting’s aftermath. The story moves between the perspectives of Roger and Zac as they take us through their journey of betrayal, redemption, and ultimately confrontation with a company that had kept its corruption a secret for decades.

Historia
Something happened to me when I was nine. My childhood memories before that fateful day are gone. Extinguished. The aftermath has become a living nightmare with a guilt that runs so deep that I’m not sure I can ever tell anyone. I fear I've left it too late. The burden of my secret and the hurt and pain that silence cost each and every member of my family is too overwhelming. But you can't avoid fate and now I have the opportunity to right the wrongs inflicted on us. There was no justice. Not then. Not now. But I can change that.

Tedious minutiae
Revisado: 01-01-24
The tedious minutia made this book 5 times as long as it should’ve been. The story was predictable, and none of the characters were very likable. I did enjoy the narrators voice.

Historia
One sunny August afternoon, the residents of Cedar Close throw their annual summer barbecue. Children play in the cherry-tree lined street, tables are laden with food, and the wine is flowing. For Laurie Mills, it’s her first time meeting the neighbours. And it’s the first time she discovers her husband, Robert, is having an affair. Cedar Close has always been a nice place to live - a quiet suburban street where everyone looks out for one another and bad things don’t happen. Until late one evening, when Robert Mills is found dead in his bedroom.

Fairly predictable
Revisado: 03-01-23
This is a formulaic whodunnit but in truth, you can figure that out pretty early on in the story who did it. The thread of babies in here was fine until the last pregnancy was revealed and it wasn’t necessary. I enjoyed the narration and the story was easy to listen to but not very compelling. I won’t seek out more books by this author.

Historia
Things have never been easy for Oscar, a sweet but disastrously overweight, lovesick Dominican ghetto nerd. From his home in New Jersey, where he lives with his old-world mother and rebellious sister, Oscar dreams of becoming the Dominican J. R. R. Tolkien and, most of all, of finding love. But he may never get what he wants, thanks to the Fuku: the curse that has haunted Oscar's family for generations, dooming them to prison, torture, tragic accidents, and, above all, ill-starred love. Oscar, still waiting for his first kiss, is just its most recent victim.

The greatest narration ever
Revisado: 12-06-22
Lin Manuel Miranda’s narration is so engaging and entertaining it is nothing short of perfection. But the story, I’ve never read anything like it. The characters are perfectly developed and the stories of each are so engaging, sexy, devastating and lovable. I don’t speak Spanish but it didn’t matter bc I do speak swear words. I loved this book!

Comedy Horror?
Revisado: 04-29-22
This story is so cheesy it’s funny. I haven’t read Koontz before so I don’t know if this is his usual style but the characters are so bizarre yet predictable. The word “mojo” is used more than once to elude to masculinity and it made me laugh every time.

Perfectly weird and wonderful
Revisado: 10-26-21
This short story is sweet and creepy and funny! Kate Winslet brings the well developed characters to life with her silly voices. My kids loved this and as a parent who mostly detests kids audiobooks due to the narrators and lame storylines, I very much enjoyed listening along with my kids in the car.

Historia
Back in 1985, Frank Mackey was a nineteen-year-old kid with a dream of escaping his family's cramped flat on Faithful Place and running away to London with his girl, Rosie Daly. But on the night they were supposed to leave, Rosie didn't show. Frank took it for granted that she'd dumped him-probably because of his alcoholic father, nutcase mother, and generally dysfunctional family. He never went home again. Neither did Rosie. Then, twenty-two years later, Rosie's suitcase shows up.
